“We have a lot to catch up—”

“I want to have sex with you right now.”

Shani clapped her hand over her mouth. Harkin’s eyes went wide.

Harkin cleared his throat. “Uh, well. Who am I to say no?”

“I can’t believe I just…” Shani breathed.

But when Harkin half-lidded his eyes and his lips curved into a sensual smile, she forgot to be mortified with herself. They sat up and situated themselves rather clumsily; Shani in his lap, legs on either side of his waist, forearms resting on his shoulders while her fingers tangled in his unbraided red hair. Harkin’s hands gripped her ass and slid her closer until their hip bones knocked against each other.

Their heartbeats pounded in tandem and the cadence of their breathing hitched. This wasn’t like the other times they made love. This would be full of desperation and joy. They were both alive and safe. They were together and there was nothing more Shani could want.
