Adeline’s POV

I was still blazing red from head to toe by the time Dianne showed up at our front door. She took a few minutes to look around, making sure we had healthy food in the fridge and commented that it was time Zale’s place had a woman’s touch.

From time to time she looked between the two of us as if trying to gauge something important.

“I agree,” I said, trying to break the thickness of the silence that stretched on.

“Yes.” She finally smiled warmly. “You don’t want to wait until the pups start coming before you redecorate.”

Pups?

She let the comment hang in the air and held her gaze on us as Zale pulled me closer and kissed my cheek sweetly.

“All in good time,” he answered, smoothing a calming hand over my tense shoulder.

His mother lifted an eyebrow before she changed the subject and said that she was taking us out for dinner. Half an hour later, we all sat at a fancy restaurant with steak dinners in front of us.
