บท 141: Traumatic experiences

"Your birthday got ruined today. Everything was going well," Charlotte said as she entered the bedchamber after freshening up after dinner. She had changed into a nightgown and kept her hair loose.

"It didn't ruin," Édouard told her and she got into the bed from the other side. He covered her with the soft blanket. "I had fun today," he said.

"Are not scared at all?" Charlotte asked him as she laid down.

The oil lamp in the room flickered.

"What should I be scared of?" Édouard queried her.

"The wrong things that can happen in the future," Charlotte said. Édouard didn't answer and placed his hand above her head. He caressed her hair and soon laid down next to her.

"Are you worried thinking what Damien will do?" Édouard asked her.

"Hmm. You said he is here for revenge," Charlotte said. "And we all belong to the royal family. We all are his target then," she murmured.
