บท 2: Chapter 2: Power over the years
It has been a few months since Jean and I arrived at the Xavier mansion. One thing I noticed was that a lot of government personnel keep visiting Charles but the house never gets attacked. I guess they won't risk antagonizing the two strongest mutants of today. It always bothered me how the X-men always got attacked and resulting in their mansion getting destroyed.
Currently, Charles and Erik were still on the same side, to create a future for future mutants, they would fight together if attacked. I laughed upon realizing this. It meant that the major reason why the X-men were targeted by the government was simply that they were divided.
When I entered the mansion, I was planning to stay low and build my strength as the more powers I have hidden the less likely Shield's, Hydra's or anti-mutant's contingency plan will work on me. It took a month before reality bitch slapped my plan. One day, Jean saw me levitating in my sleep when she had come to wake me up. This shocked her and she went to tell the professor. Till then, they did not know what powers I had other than mind block as Charles named it.
I was going to make up a lie about it being my only other power when I realized I could not control myself while floating. I had come up with a plan for how I would live in this world and since no one could cancel, copy or steal my powers, having help in learning how to control my powers would greatly reduce the time needed for me to be ready.
During this month, I secretly trained my absorption ability. I could absorb sunlight faster and I also managed to absorb the sunlight contained in plants. I also tried to fake being weak by lowering the consumption of sunlight in my cells but it is still too hard for me. The reason I tried that was to stop future enemies to dig further into my weakness as they would be satisfied learning that a certain type of light could greatly weaken me.
Jean brought Charles to my room. Erik along with other kids came as they were curious. They saw me floating and tried to gain control of my baring. Jean kept pointing at me as if to prove a point she had made. From what she was saying I realize that some were septic as Charles had said that my mutant power was related to my mind.
I tried to visualize going down but instead of doing so, my body shot through the ceiling. I kept floating towards the garden until I fell into a trance while absorbing the sunlight. "Lo!" I heard Jean screaming my name before hearing the sound of a crash. The pain felt on my back made me realize that I had fallen.
Everyone came to see me and was shocked to see me being mostly fine other than having mild back pain. Considering the height fell from, being alive would have already been a miracle for a child.
I went to the infirmary to check if I had any problems. henry McCoy, who acted as a stand-in doctor, check for any anomaly. He found that my body was getting stronger and sturdier which was why I survived the fall. The cause of levitating was put as my mind got strong enough to lift me. After that, we did more tests to see what the extent of my powers was. The test showed that I had minor telekinesis, which allowed me to fly. I also had enhanced strength and durability. I could lift a car and the knife would break upon piercing my skin.
They did not realize that I had an electromagnetic field surrounding my body until Erik pointed it out. He was fascinated as he could not control that field. Charles, Henry, and Erik concluded that under that electromagnetic field my body slowly but surely gained more power while it was being protected by it. Henry theorized that I was like a caterpillar, I was indefinitely growing while my cocoon was an electromagnetic field and I was currently a pupa. He was not sure if I would ever reach my final form or as he put it the metaphorical butterfly.
Years went by and more of my powers were discovered. One day, I burned down Scott Summers' bed. He had become my roommate when he came to the Xavier mansion. It happened by accident and that was also the day I obtain my super breath. I managed to keep my other power a secret as I thought this already made me an Omega-Level Mutant. Any more and it would have been too much for the government not to try to kidnap me. They were monitoring me but had no idea I knew of their actions since my other vision and super sense were a secret. It was a pain to learn to control them while keeping them a secret. Only Jean knew that I had super hearing as she helped me control it.
I did not tell anyone about my X-ray vision as I could imagine what the girls would say about it. thought, I suspect Charles learned it after going through Jean's mind while suppressing her Phoenix power. He changed his office into a soundproof room. I could still hear what he said but I made Jean think I could not fool him. Although with all those years spent with them, I have come to see the others as Friends, and I now respect Charles. I do not completely trust his methods as I know what some of them lead to. He tried to suppress Jean's power when he could not control them and never let Jean try to gain control over them even with my insistence. I know my super sense could be a weakness if someone was smart enough to think about it. I had also been frank about my stance on the mutant situation. I would try to achieve peace among both sides but if they tried to attack me I would fight back. Charles and Henry were indeed worried about this while Logan liked this side of me. I remember a conversation they had after Charles soundproofed his office.
