บท 3: CHAPTER 3
"Enough of this. It is pointless anyway."
"You realized it just now?!"
"Yeah. So what?"
Ignoring the annoyance on Jake's face, Garret sits next to Adrianna and gets a piece of chocolate. He unwraps the chocolate and put it on her lips. Adrianna stares at Garret first before she slowly opens her mouth and accepts the chocolate.
"Oh, gosh. I am too single and lonely for this display." Jake complains as he watches them with a scrunched look on his face.
"Then you should get a girlfriend." Garret casually said.
"Yeah. I think you will easily get a girlfriend, Jake. I bet many girls want to date you." Adrianna added.
"I appreciate your good words to me, Adrianna." Jake said. "But thanks to this person, I cannot even find a time to see my real apartment for a month now!"
Garret's company becomes so busy since it is already a month before the year ends. Not to mention, Garret successfully signed three big projects and each of them costs a huge sum of money. Since Jake is Garret's assistant, he is expected to help him with the paperwork and prepare his schedule neatly and on time. From the paperwork alone, Jake cannot finish it on time if he'll leave it on his desk so he decided to make one of the vacant offices in the building has his bedroom now.
"If not only for my salary, I had probably sent my resignation letter a long time ago." Jake said as he massage his nape.
"A good thing that you can get a higher salary plus a monthly bonus from me, huh?" Garret said with a smile.
"Of course. Money is always the best. If you try to deprive me of my benefits, I will not hesitate to resign immediately."
Adrianna cannot help but let out a sigh hearing their conversation. She's thinking a person like Jake who is greedy for his salary and bonus is a good assistant for Garret who has a short temper most of the time. Adrianna doesn't know if she has to treat this as a blessing or a disaster.
Soon, Jake takes a deep breath. After he slowly exhales, he instantly returns to his professional self. Jake informs Garret that they have a conference call with their foreign investor at one in the morning. They only have thirty minutes left to prepare. After that, Jake excused himself saying he will prepare the documents they will need for the meeting.
"I did not know that you are busy." Adrianna said. "Maybe I should go now and let you finish your work."
"No, wait."
Before Adrianna can stand up, Garret pulls her closer to him and she lands on his lap and her head bumps on his hard chest. He takes this chance to wrap his arms around Adrianna's waist and cuddles with her. Unexpectedly, Adrianna did not try to push him this time. Instead, she rubs her cheeks on his chest like a coquettish cat.
"I really hate it that you have a good body." Adrianna said.
Garret can't help but chuckle when he hears that. No one aside from him knows Adrianna's preferences when it comes to her lover. She likes men who have a muscular bodies. It doesn't mean Adrianna likes her man to have bursting muscles on his body. Garret knows that she prefers men who looks skinny but has enough muscles on their body and can slam a person who will offend her.
"I think this is your new way to harass me." Adrianna said while touching his chest with her soft hands.
"..."
Who's harassing who? It is obvious that Adrianna is the one harassing him by continuously touching his chest and arms. Still, Garret did not say anything. It will be pointless anyway since Adrianna likes spouting illogical words just to win against him.
Instead, he keeps his arms around her waist so she will not fall from his lap. Although Adrianna feels like she can stay on his lap forever, she is still aware that Garret still has commitments to do today. So with great effort, Adrianna pushes herself away from him and stands up on her feet. Garret also did not try to chase her and instead fix the necktie he is wearing. Both of them know that Jake might explode for real once he sees them in their previous position while he's busy doing his job.
"You can use the room behind the office." Garret reminded her while fixing his cufflinks. "No one will try to disturb you there."
"I know." Adrianna replied. "You can just leave me here and finish your work. I know how to tend for myself."
Garret seems like he has more to say but he decided not to do it. He just pursed his lips and watch Adrianna while she was busy tying her hair into a messy bun. Until she finished tying her hair, Garret did not tear his gaze off her.
"Hmm? Do you still need something?" Adrianna asked.
"...Nothing. I just want to say you don't need to wait for me to finish my conference meeting."
"I know that, silly."
Adrianna knows that his conference meetings always run for about three to four hours. She will be bored waiting for him. Instead, she decided to borrow his room to sleep in. After all, Adrianna needs to preserve her energy to face her father later.
By now, he was probably informed of what she had done to her date earlier. Adrianna has to pack a lot of excuses before she talks with him later. She's very sure her father will bombard her with his lectures. But for now, Adrianna put her phone in airplane mode so her father cannot contact her.
"Then I'll go now."
"Hmm. Good luck with your meeting!"
Garret looks at Adrianna for the last time before he stands up and walks towards the door. She can him pursing his lips as if stopping himself from saying anything. Soon, Garret leaves Adrianna alone inside his office.
Garret enters the elevator and pushes the button. When the elevator door closes, he let out a frustrating sigh. He really wants to kiss Adrianna earlier. Her soft lips coated with lip gloss is tempting him ever since she came to visit his company. It's just a good thing Garret is good at suppressing himself.
He should be thankful enough that Adrianna is still indulging his whims although the things between them had already ended a year ago. Their dynamics are abnormal. And both of them are aware of it. But aside from his nosy secretary who keeps on giving him pep talks when he has some free time, who will care about the things they do?
They can just sit on the side and watch him make that woman become his once again.
