Harriet awoke to a bright sunny morning.
She immediately remembered that that day was the day when the final honouring ceremony for the war victims would be held. She turned to her right, where Liam hugged her tightly. The man always slept by the window and blocked out the sunlight that would dazzle her eyes in the morning.
This allowed Harriet to see the light coming into their room creating a glittering outline around Liam's body.
Every day it dawned, Liam was the first she saw, and she was grateful for it.
Although the man's figure looked dark because of his back to the light, to her he is the most shining in this world, like the sun that illuminates her life.
Harriet raised herself slowly, afraid to wake the man. And as expected, Liam really didn't wake up. His breathing seemed regular, and even though there was no heartbeat, Harriet could still feel the warmth on his body.
She smiled bitterly in silence.
