บท 38: Preparing to Expand

With the boost in reputation from the destruction of the gangs after 2 weeks, we started to expand even more rapidly gaining a rise in manufacturing specialized people.

Wilbur was no longer the only person who could produce advanced weaponry for us we had gathered 3 more to further improve our forces.

Other than that we got 2 people who have magical manufacturing abilities, 1 enchanter, and 1 potioneer like Dustin.

With much more staff, we quickly manage to give everyone a weapon they can fight with and some basic armor to protect them against gunfire and superhuman blows.

Luckily we also managed to get 2 dedicated healers. One was a person who had Recovery Girl's Healing Kiss ability from MHA and the other had Akiko Yosano's Thou Shalt Not Die ability from Bungou Stray Dogs.

This was a perfect pairing as Healing Kiss was more suitable for the minor wounds as I use its patient's stamina and Thou Shalt Not Die works better on major wounds as a person needs to be close to dying for it to work.

With this team, physical wounds would no longer be a threat for us so long as we managed to get them here on time.

We still had to worry about more esoteric ways of attack such as poison, magic, or mind/soul attacks. Dustin can kind of deal with poison or magic attacks but he is not specialized in either.

The big problem that I was worried about was the difficulty of dealing with people who can read minds or people's souls.

Currently, we have nobody with telepathic or psionic abilities which was a major gap in our defense, any psychic could tear us apart.

If not for my incredibly high willpower stat I was afraid of being mind-controlled myself but I know that a lot of the members of our organization don't have it as high as I.

They had usually spent at most a year in their mission and usually their power came from the abilities given by the system, not their own training.

True they would train the abilities that the system gave them but it was much easier once you got the skill to progress as I myself can attest to.

I learned Renewal Taekwondo at an insane rate while just learning the basics of the Rokushiki took ages. Once I got it as a skill however I also similarly learned it incredibly quickly.

So I would need to either train my member's willpower, which probably wouldn't be a pleasant experience, or get some way to defend against psionic attacks.

I decided to take a course where they could train volunteers could train their willpower by letting all their senses be taken away by Mary.

I decide to make it voluntary as I knew that if I made it mandatory our recruitment speed would drastically drop and some people would leave.

This would be the best compromise for now. I would keep a lot of the important information only to the people who had gone through this training and only on a need-to-know basis.

Other than the psychic problem we also had a magic one as none of our mages are well versed in the theory of how they use their magic just relying on their system.

So if for example someone gets cursed basically no one here could dispel it. Maybe Dustin but as mentioned before he didn't really specialize in dealing with magical effects.

Honestly of all of the potential things I had to deal with magic ranked among the top of hardest to deal with.

I mean if someone made a ritual that needed my blood and then it would kill me I didn't really have any way of resisting. Maybe my Armament Haki could help but I was not confident.

So after compiling all my concerns onto a list I began looking for people who could either fix this now or in a future mission gain the ability to do so.

I told Dustin about my worries about magic and mind control and I knew that in the Harry Potter universe they had skills to mitigate it.

Hopefully, he would get some books on occlumency and curse-breaking in his next trip to that universe. I knew he was planning to head back there.

Mary was the one I told about my fears of psionic attacks as I knew she wanted to improve her abilities to manipulate organisms. I know we wanted to learn mind control.

So hopefully she would also learn some ways to prevent it some way after the next mission. The next thing I went to do to better the organization is more research.

I mean the biggest threat to us right now is the massive and heavily armed gang from Torres armed with futuristic weaponry.

Luckily there were no S-rank powerhouses so I was confident could skirmish them to death. I was confident I was faster than all of them and could hit them with my laser rifle than run away.

They would probably have little counterplay but I had to remember to not be too arrogant, they still might have a couple of trump cards up their sleeves.

What I was more worried about was a small group of incredibly powerful villains that have been trashing towns to the south of us.

All through the towns weren't demolished they often left massive civilian casualties in their wake. They seemed to have 1 S-rank powerhouse that allowed them to do all this crazy shit.

She seemed to have the ability of Eldritch Magic from Marvel always allowing them to escape through a portal or into the mirror world.

Along with her, there seemed to be a woman with incredibly powerful electrokinetic abilities, a man with powerful poison and stealth abilities, and a powerful illusionist in the group.

They had no physical fighter but that combination of powers allowed them to deal widescale damage quickly and quietly before disappearing.

That group honestly was a pain the ass to deal with, just like how I could skirmish the massive gang of Torres to death, they could do the same to us.

Pop in do damage then leave. At least with the help of Mary and her bugs we would probably be able to detect them even if they could put up illusions.

Other than the preparation of my organization and accessing possible threats I had also worked to better Brecksville as a whole.

The Mayor being useful for once managed to find a man who seemed to have the abilities of characters from survival games, like Rust, Minecraft, or Ark: Survival Evolved.

He could take raw material into his inventory and then make completed products and place them down wherever he wanted, making him incredible at the building.

He was the one that repair most of the collateral damage we did and had been making a new housing for refugees from destroyed cities.

It was good press for the mayor and overall made the town stronger, I was eagerly hoping that someone from the refugees would have a good skill and step up.

So far no one even joined the Brecksville Militia I guess still traumatized after the destruction of their home. I would have expected a few 'I need revenge' types to join but so far nada.

So after I heard that the city of Torres had fallen to the New Imperium, the gang with the futuristic guns, I knew that it was a storm was brewing.

I had only been 1 month since the end of the mission but damn if it hadn't been eventful. Recently the first major country had fallen to a superpowered dictator.

Mexico had fallen just 1 day ago to a group of 5 powerful S-rank threats. They seemed to all be familiar with each other and already had a massive gang.

They had a perfect party composition, a physically powerful tank, a magical DPS, a powerful healer, a robot-producing mad genius, and an incredibly smart mastermind at the head of it.

Now that 1 country had fallen to a group of supervillains every S-rank threat around the world would want to do the same.

I shuddered at even thinking about it. I really wondered considering how forgiving and even gentle our system introduction was we still manage to make it into an apocalypse using our own 2 hands.

Humans really did suck sometimes. But I had to prepare for all the threats that we could face at any time there was no time for dawdling.
