บท 61: A small sound in a silent room
We stood in front of the last path before the chamber where the core of this dungeon laid. We planned to make sure Nea is facing no problems in a normal battle with her new tricks before we finally left Ussera, and the number of small fries she dealt with cleared that up.
With Nea in the lead, the group moved towards the core. The path kept got narrower with every step we took as the light from both ends dimmed. Tap tap, our footsteps reverbed in the air, spreading to every corner of the path.
"Hm?" a sweet voice spoke out.
"What is it, Nea?" I whispered. Her sudden exclamation putting me on edge.
"I think a pebble fell on me, don't mind it."
"Nyaa," the Silcat said.
"Yeah, I got spooked too, Kou."
Once again, we continued in silence. Treading the dark passage step by step. The sound of my breathing reached my ears, along with the steady rhythm of our steps. Suddenly, I felt a jolting pain on my head, as if something fell on it.
"Ah!"
" What is it?" Nea and Eric turned back and spoke up at the same time.
"A pebble fell on me too..."
"Is that so..."
The dark of the path tried to swallow us as we walked further and further towards the center. I could feel the air getting heavier and my feet being pulled to the ground. What is with this place? My feet thumped on the ground with each step I took.
GRRRR~
A thundering growl tore into the air, shaking the entire path. The silent place was filled with the gurgling sound as all of us jumped from our spots and immediately took a fighting stance. Fear crept up our spines while we stood on high alert for any enemies.
"What was it!" Eric screamed.
"Enemies? Ivan, do you sense anything?!"
"Nothing! What the heck was that just now!?"
GRRRR~
"Nyaa~"
"What is this?" Nea said.
"I don't know! Where is it coming from?" Eric shouted back.
"I think it's the cat!" I screamed. Wait, just the cat? I cooled down with the same speed I had heated up. It's just the fucking cat!
"Did you hear? He thinks it's the cat!" Nea shouted before she realized what was going on and made an awfully disgusted face.
"Oh, my god! What is this, cat, you speak of?! Can we defeat it?"
"Dude, I think Kou's just hungry," I said. That enormous voice was just Kou's stomach gurgling.
"OH NO!!! WE ARE GONNA GET EATEN!"
With a sigh, Nea gave Eric a powerful slap.
"Better now?"
"Yes, totally. Thank you very much."
I gave Kou some food from my bag. That bastard could have just taken it himself!
There were no encounters with some randomly appearing strong beasts or monsters that put us through a life-threatening situation. I mean, that would be pretty incompetent of all the knights and soldiers involved in clearing dungeons, right? Especially the samurai of Elisbonear. It would look pretty bad on one of the strongest forces in the world if their dungeon had powerful monsters pacing about.
Well, we soon left the narrow path and finally got to breathe some fresh air. That path was totally a health hazard! After sorting the way out from the magically dense area that surrounded the core and walking for another hour. At last, we left the dungeon.
