It was already light outside the window, but for most people the day had not yet begun. It rarely started before five-thirty and it was only after four. For Adam, a new day was not beginning. It was the old one that was yet to end for him.
That night he did not sleep a wink. He was physically and mentally exhausted, but his emotional state did not allow him to fall asleep. It was slowly coming to Adam that he had killed a man.
Of course he knew this fact beforehand, but his mind was drowning in a state of unreality. With time, however, this comfortable wadding began to subside and it began to enter Lechoń's consciousness that he had really taken someone's life.
