"I'm telling you," Sammy said, humor lighting her eyes, "nothing happens when you're not there. We spent the whole day yesterday at Black Canyon, and not one EVP, not one footstep."
Kerry laughed and shrugged. "Sorry. The doctor says I can't go out to investigate until tomorrow. Gotta rest the ankle one more day." At least she hadn't broken or sprained it. "You guys better get a move on. I'll help Paul with some research while we're sitting around."
As if on cue, the water from Paul's shower shut off. Her stomach cramped at the distance between them. They'd been more like acquaintances than friends since their fight. They never argued. He'd not said one word at the hospital, or when they'd returned to the hotel. He'd shut himself in the bedroom with his laptop, and hadn't come out until the crew returned early yesterday evening.
