Mariano didn't reply. He remained mum through the rest of the drive. Iris didn't prod him anymore because she appeared to fall into the interwebs for she decided to open her laptop.
Iris became like a zombie when she faced her computer. A zombie for she could zoned out for a long period of time but then not quite a zombie for she would sometimes chuckle by herself, even giggled.
Mariano did not bother her since he didn't really understand what she was doing on her computer. He just focused his attention on his driving, letting his mind drift off to some memories he had tried to forget but failed, as he accelerated to the now empty highway.
The drive, despite its silence, was comfortable enough for him to let his defenses fall down. Letting himself think of things he no longer allowed himself to think.
