บท 25: [The Substitute Shinigami Arc] Part 25: Shrieker
We kept running after Chad. Neither of us are having much luck getting close to him since I don't usually work out and Rukia's gigai didn't help her either. I considered using Bringer Light but it was daylight and I didn't want to risk someone else seeing a boy flying out of nowhere.
???: You smell good, girl…
Rukia and I both turned our heads at the time and found ourselves face to face with the Hollow that was chasing Chad.
Hollow: "The girl smells delicious… let me eat… your souls!"
He lunged at Rukia, making me ignore my earlier thought. I quickly grabbed Rukia by the arm and used the bringer light to pull us away from the Hollow.
Rukia: "Thank you, Yato. I was so focused following Sado that I ended up getting distracted."
Yato: "No need to thank me. I told you I wouldn't let a stinking Hollow touch you." - I said smiling.
Hollow: "Heh...so the boy has some kind of power...and you two seem to be able to see me...what the hell are you...?"
Suddenly Rukia advanced against the Hollow, kneeing the creature in the face. The little shinigami took the moment to lean on the Hollow and jump behind him while she made a kind of hand sign.
Rukia: "Ye lord! Mask of flesh and blood, flutter of wings, ye who bears the name of Man! Truth and temperance, upon this sinless wall of dreams unleashed but slightly the wrath of your claws." - She recited while extending her hands towards the Hollow.
Rukia: "Hadou #33!! Soukatsui!!"
The shot was almost imperceptible, but something certainly hit the Hollow. As I already imagined that her kidou would have no effect on the Hollow, I just prepared myself to take her away from the creature using the bringer light.
Again the Hollow couldn't reach the girl, but thanks to the kidou, he now has an idea of what she is.
Hollow: Heheh…I recognize that spell…It's something a shinigami uses, am I right!?"
Yato: "You knowing that won't change much..." - I commented with disdain.
Hollow: "That explains why her smell is so delicious... You know... I already devoured two shinigami who tried to help that brat..."
Rukia: "Brat? Are you referring to the spirit in the parakeet!?"
Hollow: "Yes..."
Yato: "So you just use him as bait to lure other people for you to devour?"
Hollow: "Who knows…I can tell you the whole story if you let me devour you…heheheh"
Rukia: "Bastard..."
The hollow kept trying to attack us directly, but every time I managed to get out of his way while carrying Rukia with me.
Yato: "I thought it was kind of obvious that you weren't going to hit us..." - I commented smiling
Hollow: "Boy… you're becoming a nuisance… I'll get rid of you first so you don't get in the way of my meal anymore…!!!"
The hollow advanced again, but this time I didn't have to dodge, as Chad had come back to help…and he landed a huge punch in the Hollow's face.
Chad: "Hmm…did I…hit…?"
Yato: "Nice punch, Sado." - I said while giving a thumbs up.
Rukia: "He…he punched the Hollow!! Can this guy…really see the Hollow…?"
The idea soon left her mind when we saw Chad start throwing random punches in the air.
Yato: "I think that's a no..." - I gave a thumbs down.
Hollow: "What the hell was that…? Hehe…He gave me a real scare…I thought he could see me…hehe"
I started to laugh a little when Chad landed another punch on the Hollow.
Chad: "...Hmm...I hit him again..." I couldn't tell which was funnier, Rukia's expression, the Hollow's expression…or the random punchs.
The Hollow became irritated by the situation and started to fly away, worrying Rukia and mocking the fact that now Chad couldn't punch him anymore.
Rukia: "Don't just stand there! He's flying! You need to run away!!"
Yato: 'I could try to go there... but I'd rather see what Chad does next...'
Chad: ".....? Yato…and the transfer student…? Can you guys see ghosts…?"
Yato: "Yes and now the ghost is up there."
Chad: "...Where...?"
Rukia: "What??"
Chad: "...He's flying...so...which direction...?"
Rukia: "But what do you intend to do..?"
Chad: "...I can do this..." - He said calmly as he...pulled out a energy pole.
Hollow: "What the hell….!!?"
Chad: "...So...which direction...?"
Yato: "In that direction, just slam it down with everything." - I said, no longer holding back my laughter.
The blow was so strong that Chad, in addition to knocking the Hollow down, broke the pole even more with the impact.
Rukia: "Give up. A man will arrive soon to get rid of you."
Meanwhile I started looking around to find a way to avoid being attacked by the creatures the Hollow controlled. The problem is that this time the Hollow was more cautious about my skill and made the creatures appear from all corners, blocking any exit I could find. The creatures jumped on the three of us, pinning us to the ground.
Yato: 'What the hell… I thought I'd be able to move at least a little bit but these little monsters are actually strong. Fortunately, not as strong as Chad.'
With a roar, Chad threw away all the creatures that were holding him, using only his physical strength.
Hollow: "But what is this guy's problem!!? That idiot does everything in brute force!!" - The hollow could barely complete his sentence because he had to dodge yet another punch from Chad.
Hollow: "How is this guy doing this if he can't even see me!!?" Not wanting to risk keeping close to Chad, the Hollow returned to the sky.
Rukia: "Here, Sado! Kick above me and above Yato!"
And so he did, taking out the creatures that were holding us back. I must confess I got a little scared when I saw Chad's foot coming towards me...
Rukia: "Yato, Sado, I have a plan."
The next scene, Chad was holding Rukia like a ball, as the plan was for him to throw her at the Hollow, while I would use my bringer light to accompany her and prevent the Hollow from doing anything to Rukia.
Hollow: "Hehehe, I don't know what you guys are whispering about but this time it won't work… I made sure to stay away from the poles…"
Rukia: "Fire!!" - She screamed while Chad threw her against the hollow.
Hollow: "Eeeeeeeeeee~~~~!!!!!"
I used the bringer light to follow Rukia and as soon as I saw one more of the creatures leave the Hollow's shoulder, I changed the direction of my mid-air jump to get Rukia away. Unfortunately because I was still so close, the little creature managed to spit some kind of leeches, hitting my left leg in the process.
Yato: 'Shit, now these things are going to explode...'
Rukia: "Yato, are you alright?" - She asked, looking at a leech that was on my leg.
Yato: "Yes, calm down." - Internally, I was not calm at all.
Hollow: "Hehehe…are you surprised…? Yes…they are leeches…but they are not ordinary leeches… And lucky for me, they hit the annoying boy who got in my way…hehehe…!!!"
Yato: 'This is going to hurt.....' The hollow used its tongue to emit some kind of sound, which made the leech that was on my leg…explode, making me fall.
Yato: "Damn it…!!!" - I screamed feeling a horrible pain. My leg was now bleeding profusely.
Rukia: "Yato!!"
Chad: "...What happened...?" - He asked surprised to see my condition.
Then the Hollow brought out the parakeet's cage, threatening to blow it up if Chad kept interfering. His objective was to hunt down Rukia for being a shinigami.
Hollow: "I'll still be generous…I'll even let you try to keep protecting her…boy..hehehe!!!" - He scoffed as I tried to stay on my feet.
Rukia: "Yato, don't push yourself. It's me he wants." - And soon she ran in the opposite direction, being followed by the Hollow.
I tried going after the two, but focusing on the bringer light while feeling that pain wasn't helping. And the Hollow kept throwing those creatures towards me.
Yato: 'That's enough, when this is all over I'm going to control these powers one way or another!!'
There came a time when the Hollow finally surrounded Rukia and apparently let me get close to her only to see me try to protect her and get hurt in the process. At least, thanks to my meddling, Rukia wasn't hurt like she was in the original version…and as for me…I was in a slightly more deplorable state.
Hollow: "What is it…did you finally give up…? How boring. Chasing down a shinigami is a rare opportunity...
Rukia: "We're not giving up..."
Yato: "It's just…now…you're not our problem anymore…"
Yato/Rukia: "Isn't that right, Ichigo…?"
Finally the anime's protagonist had returned, stepping in the Hollow's face while looking in our direction with an annoyed expression.
Ichigo: "Don't give me that!! Don't try to look cool while being beaten up like this!! Didn't I tell you not to overdo it!?"
Yato: "But I did what I promised and everyone is in one piece…apart from me of course…If you think that's an exaggeration, you should have seen what Chad did…" - I tried to speak in a relaxed way.
Hollow: "How long do you intend to step on my head!!!!?" - He shouted, making Ichigo jump away from him.
Ichigo: "Ichigo Kurosaki, age 15!! Currently substitute shinigami!! If you really like chasing shinigami…Aren't you picking the wrong opponents!?"
