"Yang..."
My sister looked over at me with a raised eyebrow.
It was my first day in Signal, AKA prison.
"What is it, Roy?"
I tear my forehead off the cafeteria table and look at her with pleading eyes.
I have spent enough time in school for a lifetime, I do not need this.
"How do you endure this?"
She chuckled and ruffled my hair, slapping the hand away out of irritation, I glare at her, the chilling glare that I supposedly inherited from my mother, Summer. Little did they know that this glare was developed for over three years in my past life and add to that the five years of my current life, I mastered it.
"Scary~, anyway, you can make friends, they make classes bearable."
Fri-Ugh! Frien-Uuuuh!
"Bro, you look constipated."
I release a sigh, Fri- acquaintances were hard enough to get.
The bell rang shortly after my contemplation, the last class I had was history, where I re-learned about the first steps of civilization.
I already knew that vacuo was the most peaceful of the nations, I didn't need to read that again.
Now though.
Time for combat training!
-An hour later-
What a disappointment!
I walked back to my house, the first ever lesson on combat... And they just had us do the basics of our chosen weapons. Stupid school!
Opening the door to my house, I walked into a strange scene.
Qrow and Taiyang just stared at something on the table, they were both silent, seemingly thinking.
Walking up to them, I look at the item, or more precisely the items.
Two swords seemed to be curved and had a hand guard that branched outward on one side, the sheath was black with a red tip. I couldn't see the blades since they were sheathed and a note was attached to one of them.
"What are you two doing?"
They snapped their heads towards me so fast that I heard a crack. It was confirmed when they both reached for their necks.
"Uh, these are for you, it was here when I arrived."
Dad explained with a shrug and I looked over to Qrow, who somehow arrived here faster than me.
"Don't look at me kid, I don't know where they came from either."
I call bullshit, weapons don't appear out of thin air.
Reaching over, I take the note and opened it.
[Roy Rose, this is a little present I got you as congratulations for entering a combat school, I look forward to your progress.
Your godmother.]
...I have a godmother?
Looking over at the two swords, I take one out. It was surprisingly light. taking it out, I hold it up, felt nice, the grip was long enough, probably in consideration of my future growth and the blade was not coloured but that wasn't a problem.
"These are good quality."
Qrow commented from behind me, he was holding the other sword and flicking the metal.
"Yeah, Roy, what does the letter say?"
I'm pretty sure that they know already. What's the point of asking me?
"I have a godmother?"
At my question, they both stiffened, eyes widened and it seemed like they stopped breathing for a second.
"Can't say that I know, maybe Summer chose someone?"
Taiyang shrugged, the lie was so obvious that even Zwei huffed.
Shrugging myself, I take the other Scimitar from Qrow and sheathed them both.
"Anyway, I will be practising with these from now on, by the way... Can I quit school?"
___
Turns out I can't quit school.
Damn it.
pushing my hand out, orbs of fire came out of my red palm. First, there were a few of them, then the count reached the dozens then hundreds... Okay, maybe this wasn't a good idea.
"Hey Roy, what are these?"
Yang reached for one of the spheres.
"Wait, Yang!"
The sphere exploded.
Damn it, Yang, didn't dad teach you not to touch red glowing orbs?
The single explosion ser off a chain reaction... Those poor trees.
When the smoke cleared, Yang came into view, her clothes were burnt but otherwise, she was okay.
The spheres didn't have much power behind them yet, so she managed to get out of that safely.
"What the hell, Roy?!"
I could feel a vein pop on my forehead, she came to my clearing, did something stupid that caused a lot of damage and is blaming me for it?
"It's not my fault your first instinct is to touch one of the hundreds of glowing orbs, I can control fire, connect the dots."
She rolled her eyes irritably, ever since I took over this body, this child seemed more and more irritating, I refused to bend to her will and yet, she kept trying.
"Dad said something about a present that you got, can I see?"
...She also liked to know everything going on with me. basically, the nosy type.
"I got a pair of swords..."
She raised an eyebrow and looked around, spotting the said blades. She looked at them for a second before scoffing.
"If you focus on them too much, you won't have time to practice hand-to-hand combat."
Last time I remember you laying on the ground at my feet, but let's conveniently forget that.
Rolling my eyes, I concentrate again and my palm turned orange, it radiated heat but I was unaffected by it. A few seconds later, the spheres started forming and dethatching themselves from my hand.
"Honestly, Roy, you train too much, live a little."
... If I want to "Live a little", I need to be strong enough to protect myself, Grimm, White fang, and Criminals who have hunter training, those are fairly common. Taiyang and Qrow won't always be there, and you are just too unreliable.
"You're trying to fix what's not broken, I may be anti-social but that doesn't mean that I cant interact with people."
She huffed in irritation and kicked a pebble on the ground.
"That's not what I mean, Roy! Ever since you unlocked your semblance all you do is train, eat and sleep, you even cut down your sleeping time. I want you to interact with people."
Rolling my eyes, my ire disappeared when the fire orbs turned blue. Now they would have more power when they explode.
"And what's the point? They want to be hunters, yet they act like it's a game, you act like it's only a source of thrill, if I remember correctly that's why you want to be a hunter, because it's fun."
She scowled at me, like im in the wrong.
"And what's wrong with that?"
Her tone was threatening, warning me to choose my next words carefully. I ignored it.
"What it's supposed to mean is, you are training to be strong enough to have fun, while Im training to be strong. If you can defeat a nevermore, an Ursa and a Beowolf in groups is enough for you and for me, being able to kill hordes of Grimm while also fighting the strongest person around and winning is not enough to be satisfying."
Huffing in irritation she turned around and left, not paying attention to her, I let the spheres disappear.
Releasing a sign, I sit down crosslegged and start meditating, ever since I unlocked my semblance, I have been trying to get back into my "Soulscape" again, but so far it was unsuccessful, unfortunately.
If I can unlock my semblance just by interacting with my soul, I might be able to do something else.
When I opened my eyes, the sun was already setting and my stomach hurt.
It was noon when I started my training and meditation took a lot of its time.
Standing up, I walk over to the Scimitars, pick them up and hold them to my side. Looks like training with these would have to wait until tomorrow.
