"Hey, kid, I've heard that you... Set the house on fire, yeah, good job kid."
...Wut?
In front of me sat a very drunk man, short, slicked back black hair, a white jacket with a cape on his back, the folded greatsword right above his tailbone and black pants, he wore a cross necklace that was revealed due to his open jacket.
...And there were a few bottles in front of him.
This was Qrow, my uncle.
"Isn't it unhealthy to drink as soon as you wake up?"
The drunk man grinned at me, raising an amused eyebrow.
"Bold of you to assume that I went to sleep."
...Predictable.
Releasing a sigh, I grab the bottle and placed it further away from him. Ignoring the whine that came from the drunk, I sat down.
"Others are still asleep, shouldn't you be resting? We have my training to get to today."
He just stared at me... chuckled and reached over to pat my head.
Raising an eyebrow at that, I wait for him to say something, because, contrary to popular belief, patting someone's head isn't a response.
"Don't worry about that yet kid, first, you need to choose your weapon, we can get to training after. So... Do you want a cool scythe like your uncle?"
...Okay, I admit, a scythe is cool but too many movements, too many possibilities, and if I train with a scythe, I won't have time to do hand-to-hand combat...
I don't want a katana... Just, no...
"Can I get a Saber... and a dagger?"
Qrow looked at me for a moment, blinked, sighed and groaned.
"She won't stop laughing at me if she ever finds out."
He mumbled but it was loud enough for me to hear and stood up.
"...Alright. Let me just go to Vale and pick up a few practice swords, be back in an hour."
He seemed so depressed that I almost reconsidered. Why was he so depressed about it?
He walked out of the house and I briefly worried about his safety but remembered that he was usually much more intoxicated than he was now.
Shrugging, I went to the fridge and took out a bottle of booze uncle left there and stored them on another shelf, if he was going to train me, id rather he be sober.
With a sigh, I go upstairs to wake up Taiyang, he had to oversee the training of my fire.
"Still though, why was he so depressed? And who is "She"?"
-Twenty minutes later-
"Alright, now, show me what you can do with your semblance."
Was this what he had in mind? "Show me what you can do"? well, that's stupid.
Putting my hand up, palm facing the sky, I will the fire to materialise. It did, it actually came easier to me than it did the last time.
"Alright, now, try to shoot it, like... Hah!"
He shot his hand forward in a jab while exaggerating the sound effects.
What the hell?
Sighing for what seemed like the hundredth time in these fifteen days, I point my hand upwards... the flame didn't shoot up.
Well, not everything works on the first try. Not like im a main protagonist that has a talent for the only thing he's good for.
Being the child that I was... sadly I had a mind that was sixteen, I start thinking about how the actual protagonists did it.
Usually, they just yell out the name... And forget to explain everything else.
"Try imagining pushing something, it helped someone I knew from beacon."
Nodding, I try... Pushing.
A small flame burst out of my palm but that's it...
I just have to train it enough so that this simple move can burn down a continent.
Knowing what to do, I make the small burst again... then again, but this time it was bigger.
"Atta boy."
I continued doing the same thing for a little over an hour, managing to create a big enough fireball to burn down a small tree... and almost set the house on fire again.
"You should take a break, Your aura must be running on fumes right now."
It wasn't, actually, I barely felt any drain at all. Usually, Yang had to drain the last of her aura to use what I dubbed "Fire Saiyan" mode.
"Im back!"
Jumping slightly at the shout, I look over to see my uncle holding a pair of wooden weapons, one was a dagger, and the other was a sword with a curved blade with a hand guard.
... Yey!
He walked closer and knelt in front of me.
"Listen, kid, If you ever see a girl who looks like she has a stick up her ass, white hair and a silver sabre wearing an atlas uniform, you were forced to use this weapon because you couldn't handle a scythe when the said person is in your presence, a scythe is a number one, kay?"
Looking as confused as a real eight-year-old, I nod and take the wooden weapons.
"...I don't know how to use them, uncle, I need to be trained."
He nodded sagely and patted my shoulder...
"I don't know what to do kid, ill be honest. I developed my own style, usually, everyone does, so I can just teach you the basics and you can expand on that."
...This world's knowledge of sword styles is disappointing. Well, I have a few anime worlds to copy off of so I can't complain.
"Alright, can we do it now?"
I ask, wanting to start as soon as possible.
"You just trained with your semblance, shouldn't you take a rest?"
Shut up, dad.
"Hey, he can just watch, I can only stay here for two weeks, so I can just demonstrate the basics for him to learn."
Taiyang just sighed and nodded his head, heading back inside to make something for yang, she was about to wake up...
"Okay kid, let's get some distance from the house, maybe I can show you some ways you can use a sword... and not stab yourself while you're at it."
