บท 7: chapter 7
after 3 months of travelling, we arrived to our destination
on our journey here we were attacked by a group of bandits, this was the first time I saw my father and granduncle fight, it wasn't a fight it was a massacre
***flashback***
it was the fifth night of our journey, we are on the outskirts of a big forest my father decided that we camp in the woods for cover, we were sitting around the fire in our camp I was laying my head on Fenris who was sleeping I suddenly feel her tense up she woke up and looked at the direction of the wood and started growling, it was danger my father and Thorfell stood up too and looked at the same direction
a brigade of men appeared from the woods they were not well armoured some wore leather some only wearing pants they had axes in their hands and only the one in the front had some chainmail armour and a shield
"hand us the women and the kid and all that you have and maybe we will let you leave alive," said the bandit leader smirking
Olaf and Thorell looked at each other then they started laughing hard
"you say that like you have the upper hand in this matter you know if only one of us fought you most of you will be dead," said Olaf with contempt in his voice
the leader of the bandits didn't like being underestimated so he got angry
"!!!!!CHARGE!!! kill them keep the women and child they will sell for a good price as slaves"
they directly charged and the moment in of them reached Thorfell his head was sent flying the battle started
thorfell fought like a beast honestly he was scary and looked a bit of a psychopath as he swang both of his axes killing anyone on his way while grinning happily he fought with instinct
as for my father he fought differently he fought smartly and efficiently he has the strength of a bear and used it right every strike of his axe is either to kill or to maim his opponent
the battle didn't last long as the courage of the bandits soon broke and they started to flee
this is the first battle I have witnessed in this life

as we arrived at the settlement of the jomsvikings I saw many soldiers patrolling
they wore chainmail armour with steel helmets and white clocks on their bach they held a Viking shield in their hand with a simple that looks like an eye and a one-handed sword strapped on their waist
the jomsvikings are a rare group of Vikings, they are well organised and disciplined they are mercenaries in a sense; they work for whoever pays higher that's why they are rich and can afford to raise such well-equipped soldiers and most of these soldiers are battle-hardened because of the wars that they join
Thorfell led as through the settlement many citizens greeted him he seems to be popular here
after a while we reached the biggest building in the settlement in front of it stand an old woman that looked like an older version of my mother wearing a long white dress she kept looking at me with a smile on her face
my mother run to her the moment she saw her and hugged her crying
"mother I missed you"
"my little Esdeath I missed you too"
they kept hugging each other for a while then they separated
my grandma then looked at me
"So who is this little warrior," she said as she rubbed my head
"he is your grandson," said Mother with a smile on her face
"and this man is, "said grandma as she looked at my father
"he is my husband," said mother while looking guilty because her mother didn't even see her husband once they only talked about him once
"hello lady Aina I heard much about you from your daughter," said father awkward
"sister in law how is my brother," interpreted Thorfell saving father the embarrassment
"he has been laying in bed for a while now and is getting worse in the last few days the healer said that he is in his last days , you need to see him," said grandma in a sad tone
