"Are you sure you can't just do this at home? You agreed you would let me take you back so you can rest."

Rowan really didn't see how his blisters took precedence over everything else that was happening, but he knew he was facing a losing battle.

"Yes, I'm sure. Now give me your hand," Wren said.

While the others were waiting for Willow and Kit to return with the Acolytes, Nicasi had saved them all a headache and gone with Wren through the shadows to his supply closet at the Branch of Strength, returning in no time at all with a jar of salve for Rowan's injured skin.

In his haste, though, Nicasi had forgotten to check his wounds for himself, and Rowan hadn't bothered to remind him.

Now Rowan and Wren stood outside, alone at the end of the decorated pavilion that had been erected in front of the Hall of Logic for Lysander's installment ceremony.
