“Something’s bothering you,” I blurted out without thinking.
“What do you mean?” he asked, suspicion written all over his penetrating expression.
“Forget it,” I said quickly, noticing how defensive he had gotten.
“Is there something you know?” he pressed.
I stopped, turning towards him to face him before letting him have it.
“Are you serious? I’ve been trapped here as a prisoner for days being watched by everyone. How would I know anything?” I snapped.
“You’re a hybrid, the daughter of the most powerful vampire. Isn’t that considered royalty? You have to know something.”
I snorted with laughter, amused by his choice of words. Princess. It couldn’t be any further from the truth.
“What?” he asked, perplexed by my reaction.
“You clearly already have your mind made up about me. Why bother ask?”
“If I had my mind made up about you, I would’ve never vouched for you to live,” he said, his words cutting through me like a sword.
