บท 17: Are you afraid of me?
As soon as Akira saw him, he scoffed as he asked, "What the hell took you so long?"
Kaito tilted his head in confusion, looking to be a bit stunned by Yuzu's behavior.
"Let's just go," Akira clicked his tongue in annoyance as he started the car and drove off with Kaito.
Throughout the whole drive, Kaito did not dare say anything and Akira also kept his mouth closed, refusing to speak to the man.
Only when they got back to the villa did Akira realize that there was something wrong with 'Kaito'.
"Did I do something wrong?" Kaito innocently asked, looking to be worried.
Akira's eyebrows creased together as he heard this and he looked at the man in pure disbelief, unable to comprehend the man's shamelessness.
"Why are you making me sound unreasonable when you are the one that picked a fight with me...?!"
"I picked a fight...? With you...?" Kaito repeated in confusion.
"Are you seriously going to pretend as if nothing happened?"
Kaito blinked, looking to be genuinely lost in the situation.
For a second there, Akira believed him and he couldn't help but ask, "Who... Are you?"
Kaito's eyebrows creased together and he hesitantly answered, "I'm Kaito Takahashi. Do you not remember my name...? How can that be possible?"
Akira's mind immediately went blank. He simply could not come to believe it.
In the end, he looked up at the sky and roared, "You freaking a**hole!! Coward! Untrustworthy bastard!"
Zaelek had actually abandoned Akira. Not even bothering to solve the matter with him. After their fight, Zaelek had left Kaito's body and now, the one standing in front of Akira was the real Kaito Takahashi, Akira's number one rival and enemy.
Kaito moved closer to Akira and held the back of his hand against Akira's forehead as he worriedly asked, "Are you okay?"
Akira didn't know if he wanted to cry or laugh as he heard this question.
"Let's go inside and get you some rest. You might be coming down with a fever," Kaito softly spoke, showing his love and care toward Yuzu, "You should go and lay down for a while. I'll make you a cup of hot chocolate and bring it to you. We can calmly talk it all out."
This was probably the first time Akira had seen Kaito acting so sweet and caring toward someone and since the one on the receiving end was none other than Akira himself, it certainly felt weird.
Akira could clearly feel goosebumps crawling up his arms as he heard the sweet words smoothly rolling out from Kaito's tongue.
This was probably Akira's worst nightmare coming to life.
Kaito wrapped his arm around Akira's waist and supported him as they headed inside.
Only after stepping in did a thought cross Akira's mind: If Kaito and Yuzu were dating, right now, the one beside Kaito was supposed to be his boyfriend...
Akira gulped as he worriedly questioned in his mind: Was it going to be safe to go inside with this man...?!
Hot chocolate in bed suddenly sounded like a terrifying idea.
As this thought crossed the man's mind, Akira's body immediately came to a stop and he refused to move.
"What happened?" Kaito worriedly asked, his hand still wrapped around Akira's waist.
"I feel tired!" Akira exclaimed.
"Then let's go to your room. You should take some rest."
"No!" Akira suddenly shouted, "I don't want to go there!"
Kaito was a bit taken aback as he heard this dramatic response.
"I-I mean, I want to stay here!" Akira immediately sat down on the living room couch as he desperately tried to explain himself, "The airflow is better here. My room feels stuffy."
Kaito frowned as he heard this but did not say anything much.
"You should go back and take some rest. You must also be tired," Akira spoke with an awkward chuckle, desperately trying to send the man away.
Kaito sighed as he heard this and shook his head as he sat down next to Akira.
He softly grabbed Akira's hand and spoke, "I'm sorry. I know why you are like this."
"You know?" Akira tilted his head in confusion and shock.
"Of course, I know. How can I not realize?" Kaito smiled as he continued, "I've been neglecting you too much lately, haven't I?"
Akira gulped as he heard this and blinked in disbelief.
"It makes sense that you are angry with me," Kaito spoke as he lightly squeezed Akira's hand in a reassuring manner, "I'll try my best to make it up to you. I promise. So please don't be mad at me."
Akira felt a shiver run down his spine and goosebumps crawled up his skin.
"Would you give me another chance?"
Akira immediately jolted up and exclaimed, "No!"
"No?"
"No!" He firmly confirmed.
Kaito frowned as he heard this and looked at the man in disbelief, "Yuzu, why are you suddenly being like this?"
"I don't know!" Akira thoughtlessly exclaimed, "I just don't want to look at your face right now."
Without letting Kaito say anything further, Akira turned and ran toward Yuzu's room. He locked the door after him and finally heaved a sigh of relief.
"That damned grim reaper!" Gritting his teeth in anger, Akira cursed Zaelek who had simply abandoned the man without any warning.
Akira looked into the empty air as he shouted, "I know you can hear me! You are here, aren't you? You're probably laughing as you watch me struggle. You untrustworthy piece of sh*t!"
He was certainly right. Zaelek was watching him in secret and laughing as he saw Akira struggle.
"Come back and talk it out if you have the courage! Don't be such a lowlife coward!"
There was naturally no response.
"Come out right now! You're probably the worst grim reaper that I have ever met. How were you even hired? I should file a complaint against you. I'll give you a zero-star rating!"
Zaelek rolled his eyes as he heard this but still continued to ignore the man.
Suddenly, Kaito knocked on the door and spoke, "Yuzu, are you in there? Can I come in?"
Akira flinched and moved back in fear only to sigh in relief when he realized that he had locked the door.
When Kaito failed to open the door, he sighed as he spoke, "Yuzu, please let me in. We need to talk. Why are you suddenly behaving like this? If you don't tell me what happened, how can I make it up to you?"
"Just leave!"
"Yuzu, I can't and I won't leave. I'm worried for you. I just want to make sure that you're alright."
"I'm perfectly alright so you can leave now."
Kaito sighed as he heard this, "Yuzu, I have the spare keys."
Akira almost cried as he heard this.
"But I do not wanna have to use them so please open the door."
"I won't open!"
"Yuzu, please don't push me away," Kaito sounded sad and for a second there, he managed to move Akira's heart.
Akira felt a little bad for the man and gulped as he slowly moved toward the door and warily opened it.
However, he did not dare open it fully.
Blocking the door with his feet, he only opened it to about an inch or two, just sufficient enough to peek outside and close the door whenever needed.
Kaito looked as if he could cry at any given minute. With a vulnerable expression like that, it was impossible for Akira not to feel sorry for the man.
"Can we talk?" Kaito asked, almost looking as if he was begging the man.
Akira gulped as he heard this and lightly nodded his head.
"Can I come inside?"
Akira immediately shook his head.
"Are you... Afraid of me?" Kaito hesitantly asked.
Akira once again shook his head, "I'm not..."
"But you look afraid."
Akira gulped as he heard this but said nothing in response.
"Is it something that I did that scared you?"
"I'm not scared."
"Then why won't you let me come in?"
Akira wanted the ground to swallow him alive.
How could he tell the man the truth?
What was he supposed to say?
I'm scared that you might jump on me...?!
I might look like your boyfriend but I'm actually your rival who has temporarily taken over your boyfriend's body?!
No matter how he phrased it, he could simply not say the truth.
"Is this because of... Akira?" Kaito asked and Akira's eyes immediately widened in shock.
"What... About him?" Akira asked in disbelief and confusion.
For a second there, he wondered if Kaito also had something to do with his death.
Kaito sighed as he spoke, "Don't pretend. I already know how much you hate him. It annoys you that I look out for him, doesn't it?"
Akira almost heaved a sigh of relief as he heard this.
