Just when she was freely falling into the abyss of her own imagination, the sudden jingling of an incoming text message sounded.
It violently pulled Charlotte Cooper out of her own world back into reality. She came to her senses, but her gaze was still a little vacant. She turned her body and looked ahead.
"Hold on." Henry Russell's stifled voice sounded. Charlotte looked up from her phone in surprise, uttered a subconscious "ah" and then turned to look at the man in the driver's seat.
Henry Russell glanced over in a rare moment of free time to check if he had fastened Charlotte's seatbelt. Upon seeing her securely strapped into the passenger seat, he was satisfied and stepped on the gas again.
There was something almost liberating about the thrill of speed for Henry Russell.
But Charlotte felt her heart in her throat, the rapid movement of the car giving her the sensation of flight. She felt disoriented and anxious, and the tingling in her feet only exacerbated her discomfort.
