Chapter 140: brothers and wives

Asher poured himself a glass of juice and he forced himself to take a bite from the breakfast in front of him. He was still chewing softly when his wife entered the kitchen with his daughter.

He rubbed his face. He hoped he wasn't looking as awful as he felt. The last thing he wanted was to frighten his kid because he was once again depressed.

"Hey, Dad" 

"Hey, kiddo…ready for school I see. Do you want me to drive you?" He asked her. He wanted to prove to her that he could still be her father even at his lowest point.

"No…thanks. Uncle Kurt is driving me. He is waiting outside the door" Starr said as Pepper takes a sip from Asher's cup.

"Are you sure you don't want to take this?" Pepper gestured to the parked lunch box near the microwave.

"No. I am good" Starr moved closer to her father "What is wrong with her? She's scaring me"

"What do you mean?" Asher asked his daughter.
