บท 16: Chapter 16 - The Profession that Burns Through Money
Quinn looked at Budew's status again, trying to put together a training plan for her.
"Budew, base stats total 280, already knows how to use absorb, growth, stun spore, and worry seed..." Comparing the status to the other Pokémon he's inspected, Quinn said, "It's okay, at least much better than a Magikarp..."

Speaking of the base stats... In this world, different Pokémon have different base stats. But whether it's in the games or reality, the gap between base stats don't have a direct impact on the result of a battle. The base stats determine the upper limit of a Pokémon's level and clearly shows the gaps between different Pokémon lines.
What changes the tide of a battle is how the Pokémon was trained, and how well the trainer can command their Pokémon. Whether it's the game or reality, there are many examples to prove this.
Generally speaking, the base stats of a Pokémon won't change, but there are special cases: one of them being mega evolution. After a Pokémon mega-evolves, their base stats will change because they've broken through the upper limit of their level cap and evolved into a higher-level life form. Although they've gone through this incredibly powerful change, it's worth mentioning that it's impossible to stay in that state forever.
Some Pokémon will also have their base stats changed due to unique opportunities. Quinn remembered the giant Dragonite in the sea near Bill's Lighthouse in the anime, as well as the few giants that had been shown like Charizard, Tentacruel, and Rhydon, but they were all found in the Kanto region.
'Will all of them break through their base stat values?' Quinn thought curiously.
But those three Pokémon are all from the Kanto region and are out of his reach for now. Recalling the story of the three Pokémon, Quinn's thoughts began to turn.
Quinn's current situation may be a fairly common start for most trainers, but for him- it can be called a perfect start to his journey. Even if Quinn had the option of catching a pseudo-legendary right now, he couldn't afford to take care of it!
The resources needed to raise most pseudo-legendaries are much more compared to what Budew needs. Budews can survive in nature alone, even without the nutritional supplements she's receiving.

"Food that grass Pokémon like to eat..." Quinn sat at his desk in front of the window, carefully reading a book on nutrition from the library. Budew laid lazily on the windowsill, comfortably basking in the sunlight- swaying from side to side.
It's a very nice day outside. Even Cramorant didn't try and go hunting today like usual, but instead stood in a daze also basking in the sunlight- as if trying to imitate Budew.

Recipe: Three pine cones, two Big Root, one large earthen-mushroom, and one Sitrus Berry.

Looking at the price estimates for the items needed, Quinn wanted to cry. However, looking back through and seeing that the perfect quality food required by a Tyranitar was a little over 3000 Pokédollars, he realized how much money raising a grass-type Pokémon saves!
As he thought, being a trainer burns through money! How can ordinary civilian trainers afford this kind of food for their Pokémon! The gap between a civilian and a noble trainer really isn't small.
At this moment, Quinn held back tears of regret. Why didn't he add a Pokédollar modifier to his program before he crossed over! Fortunately, what is marked above is the nutritional recipes that an Pokémon needs to grow for an entire month.

However, the prices of these items aren't cheap, and Quinn can't afford them for the time being, so after a cursory glance- they continued moving upwards in the PokéMart.
