บท 20: In The End
"You seem to be busy Alec?" the book whispered as it glowed when Alec did not pay much attention to it.
Instead of reading the book of spells like always, he was reading about the stupid botany, that did not have anything to do with them.
What had just happened to him?
"Yes! Jenny has the quiz in two days and she is looking too anxious about it! I want to help her, that is why I will only read school books today!" she muttered as he flipped the page and started making notes of it with so much concentration that he did not notice the thin sheet of ice forming over the book and its silence.
As if fuming with anger, the book closed abruptly but still Alec paid no attention to it.
He was enjoying the normal like he had gotten accidentally.
He continued to study the books when his mother brought the dinner into his room.
She was shocked to see that he was reading normal books and even making notes for it.
Ever since she had remembered, her son had been smart and always came in merit but he had never studied the books. Somehow he just knew the answer of everything he was asked.
While he only read those strange books that were not even in english! In fact, she didn't even recognize what language they were in.
To see that he was behaving normally, she felt relieved and happy!
"Here, have some food before working so much! You must be tired!" she stroked his hair as she placed the food on the table. Though she was still a bit afraid, their relationship had improved a lot!
The boy tilted his head and looked at the food in front of his eyes. Did he feel hungry? No! He had never felt hungry in his life!
But did he enjoy food? After meeting Jenny, he had started to enjoy the food, so he nodded his head and picked up a piece of meat from the plate and ate it.
But before he could take another piece of meat, he felt the presence of another person in the room. His hands halted and his whole body turned stiff when he looked at his father leaning on the door and looking at them with strange eyes.
A wide grin appeared on the face of Jack when he saw the expressions of Alec.
He stood straighter and took slow steps towards the room, tilting his head, he looked at his wife that had turned rigid too. Her eyes were filled with fear as she struggled for the right words.
"I met your teacher today, Alec!" The words were slow and in a hollow voice that did not let Alec know his emotion.
"Honey, I am sure Alec is…" 'I'm improving and will be normal soon!' the words died in her throat when the man turned and gave her a strange gaze.
Though there was a harmless smile on his face, not ferocity like always, she felt he was looking more dangerous today.
"You are in too much of a hurry to protect him, dear!? Did I even say that I am against him?" he smiled widely and held Sandra's shoulder.
The grip was so tight that she winced and closed her eyes when he continued,
"The teacher said that Alec is behaving well these days. He did not fight or hit any other student and he had not broken any other rule too.
In fact, he is studying in the class like normal students and not reading those black magic books anymore!" the more he spoke, the more his smile widened as if he was happy with the change.
But deep in his eyes, they were glowing red and a thin layer of ice was forming in them that was hardly visible.
"Since everything is going so well, I have decided to treat both of you out! Shall we go?" he asked in a soft voice that stunned Sandra as she felt the pressure on her shoulders was even gone as if it was not there in the first place.
Yet she could not believe her ears! The man, though supported the family financially, he never invested himself emotionally. This was the first time he was offering something like that.
He was even looking at Alec the whole time as if asking for his permission, her eyes filled with hope and joy instantly.
"I can not go out today! I still need to prepare notes!" Alec replied in a blank voice. He had no desire to forgive the man and spend his time with him.
He would rather study and help Jenny who genuinely cared for him.
The smile on the face of the man cracked for a second as his eyes turned further cold but then the smile resumed and he nodded.
"Of course, since you are busy. We can go any other day! You can decide Alec!" when Sandra was thinking that he would lose his cool, he spoke in such a calm voice, that shocked Sandra.
Even Alec raised his head and stared at the man for a minute as if he had hallucinated. But looking at both of their shocked faces, his smile only widened,
He forwarded his hand and stroked the hair of Alec, as if he genuinely care for him,
"Do not worry, Alec. I will wait for you. I know you will come to me in the end!"
