"I like it when you run," Ricky snarled as I backed away, barely avoiding the swipe of his hand. "But you make it harder for yourself. Just admit you're lying, and it won't be that bad."

"I didn't do anything!" I cried, scrambling to my feet and rushing to the other side of the coffee table. I needed to get some room between us.

I knew what I was doing was the worst thing to do, but for once, I wasn't having it.

Something inside me was breaking, and the fear I had lived with for so long wasn't there. Yes, Ricky could hurt me, and I couldn't afford him to do anything to me again, but I was done. I was tired of being abused, cheated on, and taken advantage of. Today would be the last day I allowed this man to raise a hand to me. At least, that's what I hoped.
