It took a long time for Agnes to make her appearance in Adela's room.
"Finally, you are here!" Adela welcomed her.
"I know, I am sorry, but more chores came up in the way."
"It is fine, don't worry."
"Tell me. What happened?"
"I wanted to ask you if you came up with an idea to approach him again."
"Umm, I have not thought a new way."
Adela's face was filled with sadness.
"Oh, don't worry," Agnes told her, "It will be done in the same way. There is no other way. I will take care of the cook, and you will go."
"What about the other maids?"
"Tomorrow, I will see what chores will need to be done, and we will act accordingly. Okay?"
"Okay." A smile flashed again on Adela's lips.
So the next day dawned Saturday.
Adela woke up early. Her sweet anticipation drove away any need for sleep.
She sat in her chair by the window, looked out on the beautiful day that slowly woke up, and immersed her thoughts.
She was desperate to meet him again, to get lost again in the deep blue of his eyes, but she was still afraid of his behavior towards her. What would happen if she was disappointed for a second time?
At this thought, her heart pounded in protest. She was in love, and that did not change. She was willing to try everything to conquer him before giving up.
At some point, Agnes came every day to bring her freshwater to wash her face and help her get dressed.
"Now that you are ready, I can go and check the rest of the house. As soon as I have answers, I will come to inform you."
"Okay, I'll be here waiting for you."
The morning passed, and noon came. After lunch, Adela went to her room to lay down, frustrated by the day's progress. She was convinced that she would probably not be able to see him.
She fell asleep without realizing it.
She felt someone slightly nudging her by the shoulder and heard a voice in her sleep. "Wake up, Adela, wake up. You have to get up now if you want to go find him again." It was Agnes telling that.
Adela woke up and climbed down from the bed.
"Quickly, come and help me get dressed."
Agnes helped her get dressed and, at the same time, explained the plan to her.
"In the morning, Stefan was absent. He ran errands for his master. Now he will have a lot of work to do in the stable. So you will definitely meet him.
I will go to the kitchen to find Mistress Nina for the bandage change in my leg. The maids have already returned to work. I have thought for safety to have your back turned to the windows of the house. If someone happens to look out the window, not to recognize you. If you are afraid, you can still regret it and not go. I think myself that it is too risky."
"No! I want to see him and I will go. I don't care if it is too risky. I don't miss that for anything in the world."
"Okay. Then after this, I will go to unhook the window down in the library. Behind the armchair by the fireplace, I will have a little basket with your normal clothes in it. You will change before you get out of there. Otherwise, it is dangerous for a maid to see you."
"What about now? Isn't it dangerous?"
"Not that much, because now they will have all their attention to finish the work they have to do properly."
"Okay. Wait a minute. What about the library? It will not be somebody in there to clean?"
"No, the library is the only place which always is getting cleaned early in the morning."
"Perfect! Shall we go?"
"Yes, the faster, the better. I will go first, and come in a while."
"Okay."
Agnes left, and Adela stood at the door watching her. As soon as she disappeared from her sight, she started walking to the kitchen.
Her heart was pounding louder than before. Her chest was heavy, carrying a bad feeling. She felt that things would not go as smoothly as the first time this time.
But now, it was too late to change her mind. Nor did she want to. Whatever was to be done, let it be done!
Adela waited for a while to give Agnes some space to move on with the plan she had in mind.
When Agnes went down the stairs, Adela considered it time for her to move on.
First, she checked if anyone was coming down the hallway, and after making sure she was completely alone, she started.
She climbed down the stairs, and her eyes caught her little maid entering the kitchen.
She approached the kitchen in silent steps and stood against the wall, near the open door as last.
She remained there silent and, somewhere in the depths of her existence, somehow nervous. She waited with her ears outstretched to hear when they –Agnes and cook- would leave the kitchen thus would be able to cross the kitchen and go out into the yard.
"Oh, welcome, my little girl," she heard the cook says to Agnes, "Come and sit here in the chair, so you do not get tired, and I will go to the storeroom to get what I need for your bandage's change."
"Oh!" Adela thought in panic, "and now? What am I going to do? Here is the bad feeling I felt this morning. What a misfortune!"
She felt like losing the ground under her feet. She was about to leave from there she was standing and returning to her room when she heard Agnes talking.
"Oh, no, mistress-Nina, there is no need to bother so much for me. You have already done so much for me. I will come with you to the storeroom. We were very comfortable in there last time. There is no need to carry all these things just for me."
Agnes was not waiting for an answer. She had already started moving towards the storeroom, so mistress-Nina did not have a choice but to follow her.
"As you want, my little one, let's go." It was the only thing she said.
Adela smiled. "Agnes had succeeded again!"
She waited for a little and then peeked into the kitchen. It was empty.
Now was her turn to get in action.
She crossed the kitchen with quick, silent steps and got out into the yard. She took the bucket in her hands. She also took a deep breath and headed for the well. At the same time, someone came out of the stables and led to the well. Her gaze remained fixed on that figure. It was him! Stefan!
She was sure about that.
After watching him from the house's window of the house for so long, she had learned to recognize him from a distance; she was able to recognize him among a thousand servants if she needed to.
Her heart began to pound. On the contrary, Stefan did not seem to notice her. But Adela, meanwhile, had already approached him.
"Hello, Stefan."
Stefan raised his head in surprise.
