The sun rose to meet Xasha, already in his office working. He had a mountain of paperwork before him he was mowing down diligently. Davene walked into the room with another stack of papers. "It is so unusual to see you in your office, not to mention doing actual work."
"Shhh, don't jinx it." Xasha put his finger before his lips.
Davene burst out laughing and almost dropped the documents she was carrying. "Look what you almost made me do?" She accused Xasha.
Xasha gasped, feigning hurt. "These accusations, you wound me, Mrs. Devos."
"It's been so long since someone called me that. It takes me back to a simpler time." Davene's tone was laced with nostalgia.
"If you miss it so much, you can always go to the Devos territory and take your rightful place as royalty." Xasha joked, his white teeth glistening.
