บท 9: MONUMENT TO THE DECEASED

Prince Reigen's appearance might resemble his father, but their true character was completely different.

King Karl looked like a tyrant from the outside, but he actually cared about his family and his people a lot. Some people described the king of Breviel as someone who looked hard outside but soft inside.

Some people would use coconut to describe the king of Breviel. The glossy outer skin, the coir composed of fiber, and also the shell acted strongly to protect the soft coconut flesh.

However, Prince Reigen was the same from the outside and inside. He was also coconut, but he was an old coconut with a hard inner part.

He was the real heartless person who wouldn't care about other people. Even with his own family, he didn't care too much about them.

The prince's heart was as hard as a rock, and even rain wetted the rock countless times, the rock was still so hard and not withered at all.

That was why Prince Reigen had never cared about the calamity that happened to the royal family of Shovalon. He indeed knew about the slaughter that happened fourteen years ago, but instead of feeling deep condolence toward the deceased, he just focused on studying the witches so that he would be able to defeat them in the future.

And now that he finally accomplished his selfish mission, he finally questioned the tragic ending of the royal family.

"No one can confirm the death of the royal family because no one could enter this palace ever since Wemor conquered Shovalon, Your Highness. However, I and other servants had searched this entire palace, and we didn't find any survival of the royal family," Connad finally explained.

Prince Reigen nodded his head once again. He had heard the fairytale about the tragic ending of the royal family of Shovalon. Yes, people only called it a fairy tale because no one witnessed the real ending of the unfortunate family.

The tale said that the royal family was burned down by Sharass, and only their ashes remained fourteen years ago. Now after fourteen years ago had passed, their ashes probably had become one with the dust that was currently being cleaned by the servants.

"Then the royal family of Shovalon has to thank me, right?" Prince Reigen spoke again as he rubbed his chin arrogantly.

"Pardon?" The guard Connad asked the prince politely while furrowing his brows.

"Yeah, they should thank me," the raven-haired prince spoke again. "I have helped them to kill Sharass, and they should be grateful toward me, right? After all, I have avenged for their death."

If he could, Connad wanted to say that the prince was just speaking trash. All living creatures would know that the second prince of Breviel didn't care about the deceased at all. He just wanted to look for a name for himself, and that was why he headed to Shovalon to kill Sharass.

Prince Reigen indeed had killed the killer of the royal family of Shovalon, but he didn't deserve the praise because he only did that for his own purpose.

Connad knew how cunning the prince was, but he didn't dare to say anything. He had known the prince since forever. He was the son of the Minister of Finance in Breviel, and he had grown up with the prince.

They were together almost every day since they were little, and Connad knew the prince like an open book.

"Ah, maybe I should do another thing when I still have a chance, Connad," the prince's voice was heard again, and Connad focused his attention on the prince again. "Maybe I should build a monument or something to the deceased royal family of Shovalon."

That idea coming from the prince's thin lips was quite surprising, and Connad stared at the prince in disbelief. "Why do you want to build a monument for them, Your Highness? You don't even know them, so why do you want to pay respect to them?"

That character was not like the second prince at all. The prince had successfully taken over the palace of Shovalon from Wemor's hands, and that should be enough for him. The royal family of Shovalon indeed had such an awful destiny, but that was not Prince Reigen's fault.

Connad was puzzled because the prince suddenly had that kind of idea.

"Why are you so confused, Connad?" The prince questioned the guard in a slightly humorous tone. "I want to build a monument so that the world will be able to see that I'm such a kind-hearted prince from Breviel. You know that the stupid people in this era are such bootlickers, right? If I show them that I'm such a lovely prince who cares about the deceased, then they surely will praise me and look up at me highly."

Connad should have expected that kind of idea, and he regretted it because he had the slightest idea that the prince had a little heart behind the ribs. No. Prince Reigen was still the same. He was still a selfish person who only cared about himself.

"Are you sure you want to build a monument for them, Your Highness? You don't want to ask permission from His Majesty before making the decision?" Connad politely questioned the prince's decision.

However, the polite question from the blue-haired guard made the prince scowl. "Why should I ask for my father's opinion? I'm the one who successfully snatched Shovalon from Wemor, and I have the right to do anything I want with this palace! Do you dare to question my decision, Connad?"

Connad gulped nervously upon hearing the prince's cold response. "My apologies, Your Highness! I wouldn't dare to question your decision!"

Prince Reigen smirked when he heard how timid Connad's voice was. Connad was his loyal subordinate, and the subordinate often chose to be by his side than to be by the king's side.

That was because Prince Reigen often threatened the poor guard, and the prince's threat was more frightening than the king's threat.

"It's good that you finally understand," the prince spoke again arrogantly. "Now you can start planning for the monument. Make sure to build the monument in a place where people can see it easily."
