บท 43: Calm before the storm.
It's been five years since Thragg had disappeared. And in those five years Clark and Anissa had married and had a son, a baby boy named Johnathan Kent, and for a while thing were peaceful. The earth was at peace and the family was happy. Clark and Anissa frequently visited Mark and his wife Eve along with their daughter Terra. However, one day, while resting on a planet by themselves Mark and Eve were attacked and, in the process, oliver was killed. After the death of Oliver, Clark took a step back from the hero life, to really be with his family. Anissa herself had also stepped back from her duties as a viltrumite, something Nolan did not appreciate but understood. The two spent their days with their son until one night the inevitable happened.
" AHHH! MOMMY! DADDY!"
Johnathan yelled out for his parents in fear.
In their room Anissa and Clark both heard Johnathan screaming and jumped out of their bed to rush to their son's side.
" JOHN! WHAT'S... Wrong?"
Clark asked as he looked upon his son's current situation.
Johnathan had floated straight up into the sky.
" Hold on Johnny we're coming baby!"
Anissa yelled as she and Clark both flew into the sky to help their son.
" Mommy! Daddy!"
Johnathan cried out.
Clark quickly raced to his son's side and pulled him close to his chest and held the boy as he cried.
" Hey! Hey! it's okay John. We're right here son."
Clark said to his son as he gently floated down towards Anissa.
" That's right sweetheart. We're right here and we aren't going anywhere, okay? Come on look at mommy."
Anissa said to her son as she gently rubbed his hair.
" I'm scared mommy."
Johnathan stated.
" It's okay Johnny. Mommy and daddy are right here. You're safe."
Anissa said as she hugged her family.
Clark opened his arm for the woman and let her join the hug. He wrapped his arms around the woman and held his family tightly.
" Hey, John?"
Clark called out.
" Yeah, daddy?"
John asked.
" Open your eyes son. Look around you."
Clark said softly to his son.
" But I'm scared daddy."
John choked out softly.
" It's okay Johnny. We're here. We won't let anything happen to you. Besides your daddy is the strongest man in the whole galaxy. And your mommy is the strongest woman. No one is hurting my baby."
Anissa said to the boy before giving him a soft kiss on his head.
" Okay, mommy."
Johnathan said to his mother. He opened his eyes and slowly lifted his head out of his father's chest. When he looked up, he saw the full moon and the beautiful starry sky.
" Wow!"
Johnathan exclaimed with stars in his eyes.
" This is the world we live in son."
Clark said to his son.
" Feeling better Johnny?"
Anissa asked.
" Yes mommy."
John replied.
" Come on let's get you back in bed. You can sleep with us tonight. Tomorrow we're going to talk more about your powers, okay?"
Clark said to his son.
" Okay, daddy. But... Can we stay here a little longer?"
John asked.
Anissa and clark smiled at their son.
The family floated together in the night sky and watched the moon and the stars until Johnathan fell asleep in his parents arms. After making sure he was sleep Anissa and Clark returned to their room with the boy still in their arms.
" He looks so peaceful. I hate to think Thragg could take this peace from him at any moment. I still can't believe Oliver's dead."
Clark said as he placed his son down in the center of the bed.
" Clark. Mark and the coalition can handle it. I need you here Clark. Our son needs you."
Anissa said to the man.
" I know. I'm not planning on getting in between them, unless I absolutely have to. But we both know Thragg is coming for earth Anissa. It's been five years since he disappeared. And now he reappears with two Viltrumite half-breeds like Oliver. No doubt he has thousands of children by now."
Clark explained as he sat on the edge of the bed.
" What do you suppose we do, Clark?"
Anissa asked as she joined him, placing her soft yet strong hands over his.
" We prepare. We have to be ready. If Thragg wants to take a planet for himself, he can. But the moment he gets anywhere near Earth he dies."
Clark replied making Anissa a little angry.
" Clark, don't talk like that around John."
Anissa angrily whispered to the man.
" Sorry Anissa. I just... I'm just tired of this."
Clark stated.
" Tired of this? What are you tired of Clark?"
Anissa asked the man.
Clark looked at the woman for a moment before deciding to keep to himself.
" Come on, clark. You know I'm listening to you baby. What's wrong?"
Anissa asked as she repositioned herself into the man's lap.
" I'm tired of fighting. Every time our family finds peace Thragg does something that drags us right back into the warzone. I hate it. I wish I had just killed him back then. Had I chosen to ignore Nolan back then, Thragg wouldn't be here, and we could raise our son in peace. Instead, I worry every day and night that Thragg is going to show up and I'm going to lose you both. One mistake and now it could cost me my family."
Clark explained as he cried into his wife's chest.
" Clark... I had no idea this was eating at you like this. I'm so sorry my love."
Anissa said as she kissed the man's forehead.
" I just want to move on with our lives. I want us to finally be able to retire in peace and raise our son."
Clark stated.
" We will move on Clark. We will be fine. Because if Thragg is stupid enough to come here looking for trouble you will face him. And so, will I. As well as Kregg, Lucan and Thula. You know I will always be by your side and so will they. Do you believe in me Clark?"
Anissa asked the man as she wiped the tears from his face.
" Of course, I trust you."
Clark replied.
" Then trust me when I say we will overcome this. Together. You. Me. And our children."
Anissa stated.
" You're right Anissa, you're... Wait? Children?"
Clark asked.
" Children. Clark, I'm pregnant again."
Anissa explained to the man.
" Oh god... Anissa!"
Clark cried happily as he held his wife in his arms.
" Be strong Clark. Be the man I know you are. Not just for yourself or for me. But for John. And for our second child."
Anissa stated as she guided the man's hands to her stomach.
" I will. I will my love."
Clark stated as he held his wife.
" Come on, Love let's get to bed."
Anissa said as she pulled the man into bed.
Clark gently grabbed his son and placed him in between Anissa and himself and wrapped his strong arms around the both of them. And smiled at his family before falling back into slumber.
