บท 22: Demon's Castle

Byeol kept on walking forward through the Dungeon.

The Dungeon looked like a scene straight out of an apocalypse. Buildings destroyed, objects spontaneously catching fire, absence of any kind of life.

*Roar*

*Roar* *Roar* *Roar*

He suddenly heard the loud roar of a monster followed by several other roars from different directions.

Suddenly through the buildings, came out hundreds of monsters. The monsters were humanoid in nature. They had a large stature, horns on their head, red eyes, and Chitinous Armor over their body.

These monsters were classified as Demons by the humans.

The Demons started running towards him with their claws or jaws open, ready to tear him apart. But whenever the Demons entered a 20 meter radius of Byeol, they disintegrated.

A few hundred metres away, a red coloured demon, a little larger than the rest opened its mouth.

Orange tendrils of fire gathered in it's mouth, creating a small fireball. It released the fireball towards the Hunter, but it got extinguished when it neared Byeol.

"Trying to hurt me with fire? Heh~" Byeol muttered softly.

Suddenly the lower half of the monster vanished, making it fall onto the ground. Huge amounts of blood started coming out, but it was not enough to kill a highly resilient being like a Demon.

It tried to crawl away, but its horns were suddenly grabbed by Byeol who picked it up. He brought his sword near it's neck and asked, "Do you understand what I'm saying?"

The Demon suddenly had a confused expression on its face. It opened its mouth, but instead of speaking it created another fireball.

Byeol immediately killed it and dropped the corpse. He realised that the Demon didn't understand him.

It tried to act as if it was confused to make him drop his guard. But he understood that the Demon had a high level of Sentience and rudimentary level of intelligence, if it tried to deceive it's enemy.

He picked up the upper half of the demon and started walking forward. He suddenly stopped himself and dropped the corpse.

"This is a Red Gate. So I can't be expected to bring back any kind of monster materials. So that means I don't need to hold back over here~"

He flapped his six wings and flew away.

.

.

.

It has been 5 days since Byeol arrived here. After completely killing every single monster on this floor on the second day, he roamed around for three days.

He tried to find anything that can help him understand what kind of place this is. He rummaged through buildings and rubbles but found nothing.

Not a single object was there, not even things that come connected to buildings, like pipes and wires. It was just concrete and metal.

Finding nothing else, he flew towards the only place he still hadn't examined. The large column of black fire in the middle of the city.

After arriving in front of the column he threw a rock towards it, unsure of what it could do. The moment the rock touched the column the black fire died down and a white ray of light shot upwards. He walked up to the ray of light and touched it. Surprisingly his body went through the surface inside the column of light.

He looked up and saw that the column stretched on for a long long distance. Without nowhere else to go, he flew up as fast as he could.

He kept on travelling upwards without no end in sight. He had already passed through several kilometers but he still couldn't notice any difference.

He thought of turning back and going down to find another way when he suddenly felt himself getting a little disoriented. The direction of gravity seemed to change. He maintained his direction and finally saw the end of the column.

He flew out of the column and saw himself in a similar place like the earlier, except the size of this city seemed to be even larger.

He landed on the ground and looked around. He was in a different world.

He knew that Gates connected Earth to different worlds but he could feel that he had travelled into a world different from the one where he was earlier.

This Gate houses several worlds inside of it.

He noticed a similar column of black fire on this floor. Realising that he had to go to the end to properly understand what was going on, he flew towards the column without wasting any time.

He felt the presence of many monsters on this floor which he decided to kill as he didn't know what could happen if he left a floor without killing all the demons within it.

He shifted his direction and swiftly incinerated all the demons on this floor within a few minutes. He didn't bother trying to check whether they could understand his language or not as the monsters looked similar to the ones on the previous floor.

He again touched the black fire column which revealed a column of light inside it. He flapped his wings and travelled upwards again.

.

.

It was the fortieth floor and still nothing had changed except more stronger and deadlier monsters. Byeol had already spent more than two weeks inside the Dungeon. Though the absence of his need to sleep and eat really helped in shortening the amount of time.

Byeol kept on walking and killing monsters. The strength of the Demons had increased by a lot. If at the beginning each of them were as powerful as C-Rank Monsters, now each of them are as powerful as A-Rank Monsters.

Though all of them still disintegrated with a single slash of his sword.

Suddenly after killing the leader of the Demons today he was surprised to see a piece of paper embedded on its corpse.

He picked up the paper and noticed that though its contents were written in a different language, he could still understand it.

[Permit for the use of the Transportation Point for Captain of the 5th Legion of Demon Vulcan.]

Below this writing was a red coloured circle and different lines intersecting inside the circle, with the entire thing made out of blood.

After reading the contents he looked up towards the black column. He could make a guess that the transportation point was the white column inside.

Interested and intrigued by the new discovery he immediately headed towards the column.

This time after the white column was visible he entered with the paper in his hand. The ground underneath him glowed red and he instantly appeared in a different place.

Byeol looked backwards while blinking his eyes a few times. He muttered to himself, "That was something new."

He noticed that the paper on his hand slowly crumbled into dust, as if signifying that it's work was over.

Dusting his hands he materialized his sword and thought about the contents of the paper.

'There is a Demon with armies under it. Looks like it will be the final boss. Let's get to it then.'

.....

AN:

The Demons in this arc will be buffed a lot. The Demons in the Manhwa was just a copy made using Ashborn and the Architect's powers, while here the Monarch of White Flames is still alive and so are all the demons under it.

Also, Esil will also be buffed. She was originally an S-Rank Demon and she also had the strength to prove it. The scene where she is first introduced, if you remember, she tore apart a building while staying at quite some distance using just her spear.

I don't know why the fuck was she nerfed so much in the later chapters of the manga with her only contribution being throwing a fucking rod(?) at the Monarch.

Anyways.

Now imagine the real version of her.
