Tect woke up early, most of the goblins were sleeping, but Shota and Moidra were on last watch so he sat down with them. "Mornin' Boss. You want a cup of hot root water." Moidra Scowled at Shota, "Asshole, see if I share my hot root water with you again." Tect laughed at the two, but accepted a cup. It had a mellow earthy taste, with a slight bitterness. Moidra held out her hand, in it were a few green leaves. " Try smashing these up and add them in. It'll take away some of the bitterness." Tect did as she said and tried it again. It tasted a bit sweeter and less bitter. It reminded him of a type of candy the human children sometimes ate. "Moidra what root is this?" "Sassafras root. I found a few trees nearby yesterday and found a bunch of sweet leaf growing by the stream. I figured a nice hot drink would be nice on a cold morning like this." The three sat in silence for a time enjoying their tea in the last few rays of moonlight. As the sun began to rise the others began slowly coming from the tents and joining the three leaders at the fire.
Once everyone gathered Tect stood up and addressed them all. "Everyone, I think we have found an amazing spot here, but unfortunately we have failed to find a cave that we can claim. For the rest of the day today we will go ahead and gather all the nearby resources we can find, the scouts will circle the mountain to the north looking for a cave, If they can't find one by mid-day then tomorrow morning we will break camp and circle north for two days before setting back up. I can't believe that a mountain this large has no caves for us, but if anyone wants to object to the plan, speak now and we'll all listen to you." Tect waited for a few moments but no one stepped forward. "Ok good, let's get started then. I hope you all have a safe and productive day."
The goblins had their sassafras tea and some of the leftover stew from the night before then got started looking for resources. Tect took the sword he got from the adventurer's party and headed into the woods to find resources as well.
By noon Tect was exhausted, he had worn himself out digging a root that he hoped he correctly identified as medicinal, it was as long as his arm and really thick. Throwing it in his bag he continued to look for plants he could identify, but unfortunately when it came to plants… Tect was an idiot. As Tect was trying to decide if the red berries on the bush in front of him were poisonous or not he heard a snort and some rustling nearby. "PORK!" Tect screamed in his mind as the thought of juicy smoky pork assaulted his common sense. Tect's stomach was his weakness, truly anyone who had known starvation would certainly feel the same about their favorite food, but Tect was a madman when it came to meat.
Tect jumped over a nearby log and standing right before him stunned by his sudden appearance was a small wild pig. Maybe only a year old, still had his baby fat. Tect was actually drooling while staring at this pig. If Tect could read the pig's mind he would have heard it say something like, "What the hell is this dude lookin at me like that for. Wait… is he some kind of Piggy Pedo!?" Which would make some sense as the pig then began to squeal quite loudly. "Shhhhhh little piggy, shhhhhh. It's ok, I just want to taste your juicy hams." The pigs face became a mask of horror, truly it's worst fears had come true. His mother had always warned him that such beings existed, but he never expected to run into one. Suddenly the two felt a thump that shook the ground, a tree fell between them, and standing at the splintered stump was a very large, very angry wild boar. The stiff brown hair along it's spine stood on end and the sharp edges of it's tusk glinted in the light. Tect gulped, looked down at his waist and then did some quick math. "One 300lb boar+ Two tusks vs one 160lb me + One short sword…" Tect turned toward the mountain and ran. The boar thundered after him. Tect attempted to use the trees as cover, but the boar knocked them to splinters as he charged through. The little pig squealed his support for what Tect assumed was his father. Thankfully every tree the boar smashed allowed Tect to increase his lead by a small margin, if he could increase it enough when he reached the cliff he could try to climb up. He was running towards the spot he saw last night, the numerous shadows the wall had cast led him to believe that it was probably the easiest spot to climb.
It was an exhausting sprint but Tect had made it finally, he scrambled up the wall as fast as he could. In doing so he dropped the root he'd been wasting his whole day to dig up. The boar charged from the forest and slammed into the cliff. Tect nearly lost his grip and the boar was thrown backwards. As it shook its head to clear the stupor it noticed the root Tect had dropped. The boar's eyes lit up. It snorted at Tect, then took the root, and left. " Damn, that must have been a good root." Later that day in a secluded part of the forest a large boar and small pig lay on their backs starting with dilated eyes at the wash of fantastic colors flying around them. Beside the two stoned pigs lies a half eaten root.
Tect waited a few minutes on the cliff to be sure the pigs had actually left before climbing down. He was nearly on the ground when a jagged part of the cliff scraped his arm, drawing a tiny drop of blood. The drop flew from Tect's arm straight into the cliff face where it was absorbed. The cliff shuttered and Tect was thrown to the ground. Tect was shocked but quickly jumped to his feet to observe this damned vampire cliff. Initially he couldn't tell any difference in the cliff, but after carefully observing it he found a hairline crack going from the top of the cliff all the way to the ground at his feet. Tect wiped some more blood from his arm and touched the cliff. Once again the cliff shook, and the crack slightly widened to the width of a finger. "This can't be real, What kind of crazy magic runs on blood of all things?" Tect pressed his whole arm to the wall and he could feel it absorbing his blood, after a few seconds it stopped then all hell broke loose. The tremors that had occurred before were nothing, now the whole forest shook. The gap in the wall slowly grew to the width of a house, beyond it was a short entryway with two tunnels leading left and right.
The shaking had drawn the attention of all the goblins and they had come running back to camp, from the location of the camp they could see the cliff opening up. When the tremors stopped they all made their way over to find Tect standing in front of the opening grinning like an Idiot. None of the others could see it but in pale silver letters at the back of the entry a message had appeared, "King Candidate be welcome to the Heart of the Mountain, Birthplace of Kings."
Shorter chapter than I've done lately, but the next one is likely to be super long and I didn't want to cut it in half. I know the Tags for this story don't seem correct but trust me we are getting there just hang on for a bit longer. I have big plans for the cultivation and system but I want it to make more sense than some other stories I've read lately where the MC gets an OP godly System that does all the work for them. Anyhow, Hope you're all enjoying it so far. Drop comments if you have suggestions.
Much Love ya'll,
