Subaru get's beaten up
After Kaji left the hall, some nobles started whispering to each other once more. The Oni had made an impression on some of the knights and nobles, they could understand what the red-haired monster was talking about before leaving. The royal candidates weren't happy with what he said, they wanted to go and ask him why he said that none of them were worthy of ruling the kingdom.
But after a couple of moments, one of the wise men spoke and the royal candidate selection process has officially begun. And soon everyone was done with the gathering and Subaru was told to come to an arena-like room, with a plain field. While many knights were looking at Subaru with judging eyes.
Subaru, just like in the original storyline, got beat up by Julius, but even though he got himself into this mess, he stood his ground. Subaru was a bit different from the original who experienced death more than the current him. And because of that, he wasn't as desperate, he conducted himself a bit more honorably or properly unlike he was supposed to, but it didn't change the outcome.
After the so-called duel was finished, Subaru was taken away to a room where he would be heald. Julius, on the other hand, was disappointed by how weak Subaru was, but as a knight, he had to duel the boy, for had insulted all of the knights, by insulting their profession. And even if he didn't want to beat Subaru up with a wooden sword, he didn't have a choice as he had to protect the so-called honor of the knights.
And the beating was so one-sided that the other knights who were watching felt pity for Subaru. But they also knew that he had insulted them so it was given to happen, but they could sympathize with the boy, after all, at one point they were as weak as him. But they struggled to improve and become proper knights, they knew how weakness felt, but even so, they continued to watch.
After the whole fiasco, Roswaal returned to their current residence and took a seat right in front of Kaji who was sitting on a couch and drinking tea. The clown smiled, before speaking.
"Kaji, you truly are entertaining, but you have to tell me, why did you do what you did?" The mage asked while looking at the Oni.
"Why? I do not know. I just felt like it." Kaji spoke while taking a sip of his green tea.
"But Roswaal, I think it's time we stopped playing games, I know what your final goal is. I know that you will do absolutely anything to achieve it, and I don't plan on interfering with your plans" Kaji spoke as he placed the teacup on the table, with a smile.
"Hoho, and what do you think I wish to achieve?" Roswaal asked with the same as always demeanor and speech he didn't believe that Kaji actually knew what he wanted to achieve.
"You want her back, don't you?" Kaji asked, while Roswall narrowed his eyes, as he looked at Kaji.
"And how do you know of this?" Roswaal asked in a serious tone as if he was done playing games.
"That's irrelevant, I know that you know about our pact being broken, as I in a way nullified its effects. But Let's continue doing what we did, and do what we want to do. You can continue on trying to bring her back, and I'll do my own thing, can we agree on this?" Kaji asked, while calmly looking at the clown makeup-wearing mage.
"And why do you think that I will let you live after everything you just said? Why do you think that I would agree with you?" Roswaal asked with a bit of playfulness in his voice.
"Because you know that if we fought, it would create far more trouble than it would be worth. I know how strong you are, but even then there are people stronger than you, and this might lead them to set their sights on you or me. Doing so you would also be acting unlike what was written in your book, right?" Kaji asked with a calm smile while looking the mage right in the eye.
While looking calm on the outside, Kaji was nervous inside, after all, he knew that this might ruin everything. But even so, he needed the mage to be more aware of his situation, not to mention that he might be able to get some sue out of this later on. He needed to show Roswaal that he knew about his plan, about his book, he needed to make the mage trust him, even if a little bit.
Roswaal looked at Kaji, and wondered how he learned of all of this, after all, he was sure no one but him knew of his plans and the book. Kaji could have learned about the book from Beatrice, but he doubted that the spirit would just tell the Oni about it. Not to mention for her, the Roswaal she knew was supposed to be dead a long time ago. The mage's mind was filled with questions, and he wanted to know how this was possible for the Oni to know all of these things, but he smiled thinking that he could use Kaji, and learn something he might not have known.
The two of them were smiling while looking at each other, they were thinking of ways to make use of each other.
