บท 22: Chapter 21

Following my blast, I became a bit winded from the energy exhaustion but smiled. I succeeded in knocking down the robot.

Structurally he looked fine besides a few scorch marks but there were no signs of movement.

"Should I break his arms and legs just in case?"

While I was contemplating my next course of action, Kara flew next to me with an unconscious pinkish purple humanoid.

Kara: Hey there! Thanks for the help! It was a good thing you were nearby.

Voranis: Y-yeah! Ha, ha, I just happened to be close.

Kara: It was perfect. Otherwise it would have been very difficult to beat both Metallo and Parasite at the same time.

She gave me a thumbs up.

Voranis: So his name is Metallo huh? He didn't seem that strong though.

Her gaze changes slightly.

Kara: Sure, if you don't have a weakness to kryptonite then he's just a durable robot with a lot of firepower.

Supergirl said quickly.

"Is she...how do they call it? Is she salty?"

Voranis: No I didn't-

She sighed and waved.

Kara: It's fine, but did they have to attack today of all days?

Her voice was raised and had a hint of annoyance.

Voranis: What's wrong?

Kara: I'm sorry, it's just that...I was in the middle of something important...

"Is she talking about me? Am I important?"

Voranis: Oh I'm sorry to hear that...So what are we going to do about them.

My morale was raised a bit at her words but there was still the matter of the two villains with very suspicious motives.

Kara: I've contacted the Justice League. They should be here any minute now.

Voranis: Great! By the way, Metallo said that he was looking for me.

Kara: What? Did he say why?

The girl of steel seemed genuinely surprised.

Voranis: No, but it's almost certain that he's working for someone. He mentioned something about becoming rich.

Kara: This is quite concerning. You must wait for the others to arrive. We'll be able to help you.

Voranis: Sure, I don't have a reason to deny your help.

"It's not bad to rely a bit on the resources and experience of the Justice League."

We chatted while waiting for the rest of the heroes. Kara is a kind person, she treated me like a friend even if she didn't know me in this persona.

It wasn't long before a dark sleek aircraft approached. From it, two terrans disembarked, a man with a suit as black as the night with spike things on his head and a woman with dark hair and weird armor that mainly covered her torso. She was a beauty of the same level as Kara which wasn't thet common.

Kara: Wonder Woman, Batman, thank you for coming.

Batman: What's the situation?

I explained what happened and the Batman proceeded to stare at me with such intensity that rivaled or even surpassed that of Alarak's and my father's.

Batman: I see.

After a few seconds that's all he said before he began walking around the area.

Wonder Woman: Don't mind him, he's like that with almost everyone.

She gave a short hug to Kara informed me after Batman walked away.

WW: Do you need a safehouse? The JL can provide one for you.

Voranis: I'm more worried about those close to me and don't get me wrong, but I don't want to reveal my identity to you.

Batman: I can help you with that.

He spoke from behind me, surprising the hell out of me making jump a bit.

Kara: Yeah, he does that.

Supergirl chimed with a deadpan voice.

WW: You'll get used to it.

Batman: Hmmm...

Voranis: If possible, I would like a way to contact you.

"It would be very helpful if I had the Justice League on speeddial."

WW: We can do that.

Batman gave me a device that was like a slightly large coin.

Batman: You can directly me or issue an s.o.s. to JL frequency.

Voranis: Thank you Batman, Wonder Woman and Supergirl, may Adun's shadow forever hide you!

I said without thinking.

Batman: I'll contact you when we find something.

"When? Not if? dem he's confident."

Voranis: Got it! If you need me, you have my sword!

Kara snickered.

Kara: And my axe!

Judging from the tone of her voice and movement, she was mimicking someone but I didn't get the reference.

She chuckled for a couple more seconds until she realized that we either didn't get the reference or nobody found it funny.

Kara: You guys are no fun!

Wonder Woman shruged then approached and offered to shake hand.

WW: I'll be honored to fight alongside another warrior.

I obliged and shook her hand as my eyes were drawn to hers.

"Good thing I'm wearing my helmet."

Voranis: The honor is mine!

I took a step back.

Voranis: Since you have this under control, I'll bid you a good night.

I became invisible while turning my back to them.

The way back was peaceful. I found a hiding spot approximately between Lorelei's house and my workplace to hide the communicator while I wasn't wearing my armor.

I didn't doubt that these guys were heroes but they couldn't be fully trusted yet. The same could be said about me from their side.

I managed to rest after a short but much needed meditation session.
