บท 40: The wise 40
When I reached for practice the next day I was in high spirits. Though the sessions were gruelling I did them all with passion. Even Amir commented that the fall did well for me. It was an off-handed compliment but it still. I chatted with Sam for some time he was my new friend here. He thinks he can relate more with me than guys. But I think we haven't reached the stage where we talk about hot guys but still.
I know the guys here are not interested in Sam all of them were straight and if anyone wasn't they were not willing to come out of the closet. The Lycans don't marry for love their marriages are contracts that would mean that all must marry the opposite sex to have babies. I have noticed that the kids were very rare because you will hardly sleep with the people who you hate. With a rare exception, they all seemed to hate the partners they were married to. They were gays too but Igor never encouraged them to come out and I heard that they were denied promotion if they ever dared to come out. He is a dick of a leader I didn't know why they tolerate him. Maybe because they have no choice since it's kingship and not a democracy.
I don't know what Lucien thinks of democracy but I knew he hated the ideas of humans simply because he hates us with one except me. That thought made me smile and I wish he was here just so I could look at those beautiful blue eyes. His body is hard but also soft to touch. I haven't seen him much just here and there only glimpses. I know he checks up on me because Riley snitched on him.
A knock on the door woke me from my daydreaming. To my surprise, there stood Riley and an old lady. She was probably the age of my grandmother. Riley led her by hand. I noticed that she was blind. When she told of an astrologer I expected a phoney guy with a fake beard but an old blind woman wasn't what I thought.
"I had to sneak her in using maid's corridor. The guards don't like it when other people come inside the prince's room for security reasons. I wish prince was here so we could know his future too", said she. I rolled my eyes at her. I can guarantee that the prince will only be less enthusiastic than me.
Nevertheless, I guided her inside I respected her age and considered her disability maybe this was the right career choice for her. I only hope she leaves fast because I have no time to entertain her or Riley I have to wake up early to practice.
" I'm sorry to intrude on you at such a time. But Riley was persuasive", the wise said in a deep voice.
"I can imagine wise. Can I call you that? By the way, I'm not interested in astrology or anything. I would rather believe that we make our destiny. I would like to pay for taking the trouble to come here but I have no money", I told her.
" I'm not here for the money. I can tell you are sceptical about my powers and anyone with the right mind will be. But I assure you that I'm not that bad. If you don't want to believe me as a fortune teller you can listen as you listen to your grandma", she said.
I took a sharp breath of how much she knows about me. She mentioned to my grandma it could be a coincidence. I haven't told Riley about my grandma but it could be a phrase. After all, everyone has a grandma.
"Can I have your hand it's easier that way? Since I can not see there must be a connection between us so I can tell things", she told me.
I put my hands in hers curious to know what will she say. She sounds confident that she will be able to tell things about my life. I only wish it is not a tactic from her end because I can not kill an old lady. I only hope she is not a lycan spy. Maybe she is a psychologist who was reading things by looking at me. I waited for her words eagerly if she was truly worth the hype.
" Relax Mara, I know you take time to trust people but once you do you will lay your life for her. But I know what you need to hear is something more than that. I see a great and troubled journey ahead of you. You will be betrayed by the one you love", she paused for a second.
Lucien was my first thought. Does she mean him? It was on the tip of my tongue to ask but if I did then that would mean I believe her. So I won't fall for her trap. She is dangling information like bait so I divulge more details. So I kept quiet.
"You will marry a man who doesn't know himself, not lycan not a human. With his help you will conquer your enemy", she ended.
" So the prince won't marry her. That's a shame he is very much in love with her", said Riley a little bit disappointed.
"I think the lady is tired Riley you better take her home before guards find you both here", I told her.
Her eyes grew round and fearful. I need a goodnight sleep anyway. I should be happy the way she said I won't marry a Lycan. That would cut Lucien officially from my list of potential husbands not that I kept one.
" She is right a guard is on the way here he has heard something we should go", said the wise one.
"Oh my God, let's go", she said then she frantically jumped to her feet. The wise one lifted herself up and held her hands to be led away.
When she reached the doorway she turned towards me and said, " It's an honour to meet you and good luck for your future. With you lycans may go back to old ways and survive in coming centuries or else we will just go extinct as payback for our misdeeds.
