บท 157: Chapter 2489 Why Is It So Hard To Find An Avatar!!?
In a dark chamber,
A lone figure was seated, meditating.
If one looked closely they would find that his stillness was corpse-like, look closer and they would find that he wasn't breathing!
But if one were to look not just closer but longer, they would see that he was indeed breathing, but ever so slowly, at a rate of about 1 breath every 100 years!
Hanging above the man was an Endless Knot symbol(1), chains were protruding out of it and onto the man, slowly ensnaring him.
Everywhere the chains grafted onto the man, cracks began to spread, though, from the outside perspective, this was all happening in incredibly slow motion.
Earth was stunned by the sight.
"H-how? W-why? I-I just," Earth was rubbing her temples with both hands, her face perturbed with frustration.
Star Constellation began explaining the circumstances leading to Feng Jiu Ge's situation.
"You're telling me a Rank 8 managed to attract the attention of the Great Dao of Destiny?" Earth enunciated each of her words to emphasize her point.
Star Constellation nodded, "There were some things that were not clear about what exactly happened, but 2 things are for sure. Feng Jiu Ge is bound with the Great Dao of Destiny and it's killing him."
Earth could not believe that Feng Jiu Ge was capable enough to attract a Great Dao Fruit.
Keep in mind a Dao Fruit was already an incredible mass of power, an aperture needed to be at least Rank 9 to hold in its limitless power, thus, one could imagine how much worse it would be for a Great Dao Fruit!
A Pseudo-Venerable may have been able to hold a Dao Fruit in their Aperture, with immense preparation and help, but a Great Dao Fruit? Impossible.
Feng Jiu Ge was on the path of self-destruction.
Earth needed a second to calm down, "So is this why you set up this whole next venerable competition? You want to find a 3rd candidate?"
Star Constellation nodded, "It is as you say."
Earth glanced through the top 10 candidates, then the other 90.
"That Hei Lou Lan girl is promising but unviable, not only is she related to Giant Sun but she's also bearing Reckless Savage's Inheritance." Earth snorted in disdain.
She absolutely abhorred Reckless Savage, it was one of the few things she and Heaven could still agree on.
He was just too…Reckless.
Barging into the Heavenly Dao and snatching a Great Dao from within, though it was largely thanks to the Great Dao of Power resonating so deeply with him that allowed such an event to happen.
"At least Primordial Origin can be said to have exploited an opportunity to obtain the Great Dao of Origin, though I guess I still have to thank for awakening me" Earth recounted that fateful day.
She had been sealed into a slumber by Heaven and had been stuck for a million years, but that day when Reckless broke the Heavenly Dao to achieve the mythical Dao Emperor realm.
"He nearly shattered the underlying rules and foundations of the world, but only such a force could have weakened Heaven's seal and allowed me this chance."
It was ironic really, the person who threatened the extinction of the world was also the person responsible for her freedom.
"That Reckless is really…haiz" thinking about all the problems she had to deal with gave even the Immemorial a headache.
"Let's deal with the present problems first," Earth collected her thoughts, "Of the top 10, only 5 are viable, Wu Yong, Lin Jian Xing, Peng Da, Xiao Xuan and Yu Shen."
"The others are on either Fang Yuan or Giant Sun's side."
The list were as follows:

Shen Shang was a surprise to everyone present, for different reasons.
He had donned a disguise using Human Path, that made people perceive him as an obscure and reserved character that couldn't be bothered.
It worked, throughout the whole trial and competition no one paid any attention to him.
Even Genesis Lotus didn't notice anything unusual as Shen Shang had used the mass amounts of Humans to conceal himself from even Venerables!
As long as he didn't display his full power he should have remained hidden…however, Star Constellation was no longer on the same level as before.
She instinctively knew something was weird, and began deducing, eventually finding the abnormality that was Shen Shang.
"If I hadn't become a Pseudo-Dao Emperor, he really might have slipped past us," Star Constellation remarked.
Shen Shang was really a once in a generation genius, after all, he was Limitless's Dao Guardian.
"Too bad he's sided with Fang Yuan," Earth lamented, "After a talent like Feng Jiu Ge, only someone like Shen Shang who has both talent and experience stands out."
It wasn't that the others weren't good, far from it, they were all geniuses beyond the scope of almost all men, they put the word genius to shame!
But if these 10 were at the top of the mountain, then, Star Constellation, Red Lotus, Genesis Lotus, Fang Yuan, Giant Sun, Heaven, Earth, Reckless and Primordial were like the vast universe that hangs over the mountains!
Feng Jiu Ge was attempting to cross from the mountaintop and journey into the stars.
As Earth and Star Constellation were contemplating and formulating their plan, the top 10 took action.
"Why should we waste time waiting for these ants to come 1 by 1 to challenge us?" the 7th spot Qing Chou spoke out, "WHy don't we just wipe out the other 90 right now so we can get to the real challenge."
His aura surging as he pointed his spear at the other 90.
The other 9 were also intrigued by both Qing Chou's boldness and new found clarity.
"If I remember correctly, this was once the legendary soul beast Qing Chou," Shen Shang muttered to himself.
"I'm in," Yu Shen voiced out, releasing his aura and preparing his Killer Moves as well.
"Same."
"Sure."
"Why not?"
"Might as well."
Other voices of agreement came from the other 9. Only the top 3, Ma Hong Yun, Shen Shang and Hei Lou Lan, didn't respond, they remained aloof, each focusing on the benefits of being in the top 3.
"Although these pillars give good insights, there's simply no way for them to provide insights that would allow me to break through to the Supreme Grandmaster," Shen Shang sighed, "Only the Primordial Domain would allow me to break through…" (1)
Shen Shang was very tempted to reveal his full strength and fight for the number 1 spot.
"No," he shook his head, "If Star Constellation can see that my strength is at this level, it means she knows my identity, or at the very least suspects it."
It took a lot of willpower for Shen Shang to give up on obtaining the only feasible path to Venerablehood.
The 10 strongest Gu Immortals, below the Venerables, even without the top 3, versus the other 90 strongest. It was an absurd matchup, every individual in the top 100 held some renown in the Gu World and yet…
What happened next was a one sided massacre,
The biggest show of strength came from Qing Chou.
The once Killer Move turned Soul Beast, dove straight into the heart of battle, blocking attacks with his shield and wiping enemies with a wave of his spear.
In the past Qing Chou was a Killer Move used, in desperation, by the Qing Clan to refine Dvine Bean Palace, the move mutated due to a resonance between it and Divine Bean palace causing Qing Chou to turn into a Soul Beast.
With Hatred Gu as its core, Qing Chou sought only the death of Spectral Soul.
It was once a mere beast with only instincts to guide it but now…
Now, it possessed the clarity, wisdom and experience of all the Qing members before it.
In the initial fight with Spectral Soul, Qing Chou went through a qualitative change, its memories were awakened and it gained all the knowledge, wisdom and hatred of the Qing clan members that were sacrificed.
What once was a terrifying soul best had now become a man with a savage look, his hair was rough, and he possessed the physique of a warrior.
He held a spear with snake motifs and design on his right hand, a turtle shell shield on his left, and donned an armor that was made from his wings.
Qing Chou resembled the spartan warriors from Fang Yuan's home world.
After the fight with Spectral Soul concluded, and bearing the full brunt of his self-destruction, Qing Chou was split into 3 parts, the Body, the Shield and the Spear. (2)
Originally, Qing Chou was content with letting himself fade to death, satisfied with the death of Spectral Soul, his greatest enemy.
But Hatred Gu wouldn't let him rest, it healed him, pressed him to keep going, to spread Hatred to fulfill Vengeance!
But Qing Chou had no obligation to listen to Hatred Gu, his primary source of Hatred was gone, the voices had stopped, he was finally at peace…until he sensed Spectral Soul's presence.
The moment the giant Spectral Soul leapt out from the Doors of Life and Death to devour the sun, Qing Chou sensed it.
The anger, the pain, the Hatred! Burned in him once again, he went on a quest to reclaim the other 2/3s of his power, and within the Gu circles he was known as the Vengeful Warrior.
But that was a story that wasn't worthy to make it into the ears of the Venerables…at first.
Each of his equipment was actually part of him, thus, making them part of the Qing Chou Killer Move!
His equipment was as strong as he was, and with Rank 9 Hatred Gu fueling them, they were even more powerful than ordinary Rank 8 Killer Moves.
With just a swing of his spear, he wiped out 10 Gu Immortals, fortunately Genesis Lotus had complete control of the battlefield and warped Gu Immortals who were right on the verge of death.
"Initially I thought he was a discarded pawn after the battle with Spectral Soul, but it seems like he still has some use." Star Constellation said as she saw Earth's interest in Qing Chou increase with his impressive performance.
"You're right he might have his uses…" Earth pondered, "But he's not only uncontrollable, he's also unreliable, most of his strength comes from Hatred Gu, so his maximum strength and potential can only be displayed if he was fighting Spectral Soul."
Star Constellation smirked slyly, "There's something I haven't told you."
"Hmm?" Earth replied, intrigued, "What is it?"
"The current host of Heaven is Spectral Soul Demon Venerable!"

Such a coincidence could only be considered a stroke of pure luck.
But Earth wasn't just a naive optimist, "I can tell that it would still not be enough, even with his peak strength, he wouldn't be able to do much if he lost control and ran headlong to every battle with Spectral Soul."
Star Constellation nodded in agreement, "That's for sure, but he would still make a great pawn."
(1) I mentioned this in a past chapter, long ago, but I'll mention it here again, Heavenly Court obtained a unique form of Primordial Domain from Heaven, as part of their deal to deal with Fang Yuan (Originally meant to raise Ma Hong Yun) This Primordial Domain isn't unique to 1 path, though the Gu Immortal still needs to at least have Quasi-Supreme grandmaster.
(2)Couldn't find info on what happened to Qing Chou after the battle with Spectral Soul so this will have to do.
