____________
POV: Astaros
____________
The forest under the shadow of Rakui was once again quiet. There was no churning of earth, beating of wings, or shattering of bone.
The shadows which veiled the forest and it's depths was slowly being peeled away by the rosy red sunlight that had been smeared across the sky as the sun was slowly dragged below the horizon.
For a moment, the earth seemed to be stained a bloody crimson.
However it did not just seem to be. It very much was.
Blood and flesh had been blended into the mud as though it were some form of gory soup. The puddles which were once clear and pure now stunk of death and as one approached the center of this massacre bodies began to pile up.
The hill of corpses was crowned by a black stump with beautiful untarnished white wood and finally, beyond that, was me.
My armored fingers which were once a beautiful silver were now completely blackened from the amount of blood which had crusted into them.
The Shattered Star however was no better. It was practically a club now given how much blood and flesh was on it.
Conjuring cackling scarlet flames of fox fire which I then sent down the blade in a wave, burning away the flesh and blood that had clumped on it's edges and faces as it sizzled and sparked. The acrid smell of burning blood was then blown away as I summoned a light breeze.
Retracting the massive blade I looked around at the sea of broken bodies and simply sighed.
Not a single creature had fled once I began to release my mana pressure. They also never turned against each other throughout the entire fight, as though the entire forest had become my opponent,
'Considering what I'm doing here though I'm not surprised.' {Astaros}
The cracking and snapping of my fingers coming unstuck echoed throughout the forest as sparks began to appear around them. Slowly these little sparks and cinders coalesced into a weak flame, burning away the blood as I flexed my hands.
'Damage Core' {Astaros}
A faint red glow shone from my chest as I felt the damage core begin to spin, its voice now resonating within my mind.
'Primary Initialization Complete. What is your query?' {Damage Core]
Looking out beyond the clearing I noticed something coming quite slowly towards me. Likely a straggler of 8th wave. Ignoring it's mana signature I turned my attention back to the damage core.
'I now understand how to grow but how does this make me any stronger?' {Astaros}
The damage core now spun a little faster as the scarlet light began to replace that of the fading sun.
'It increases your mana pool, enhances your body, and adds to your divinity pool. All previous skills increase in strength and potency with the chance of older skills mutating. New titles also become available along with your class finally changing.' {Damage Core}
Thinking for a moment I waved away a question for another time.
'I'll ask after this guy is done.' {Astaros}
Looking to my right, twin dagger-like claws dug into a nearby tree, cutting through bark and pushing the entire trunk out of the way as a massive black wing slowly followed it. The massive black wing slowly stretched outwards as it's body loomed out of the shadows.
This body was headed by a grey pig-like face covered in mottled fur of grey and black. It's true body however was like stone, with massive chipped plates of stony bone like armor sitting along its spine.
The creature moved soundlessly as a short thick tail tipped in a mace-like ball with jagged bony slowly swung up from behind it as it's beady black eyes seemed to lock onto me.
Drool dripped from it's maw as it opened up to reveal tusk-like teeth on its bottom jaw and flat brick like teeth haphazardly spread out across the of its mouth. Its attention was then drawn to the
'A garvorc' {Astaros}
It then shoved its bottom jaw into the floor as it began to tear battered and sunken corpses from the mud and soil, it's terrifying bottom jaw goring the already eviscerated corpses.
'Are you going to absorb it's mana as well?' {Damage Core}
Watching the creature for a moment I mulled over it for a moment.
'No. I don't need to take every life I come across. This creature has done nothing to me, so why should I crush it? Besides, after reading about them in the guild gave me a good idea of how rare they are.'}
The damage core began to rotate as it took in my words, a dull glow shining from my chestplate. This glow became brighter and brighter while the damage core spun faster and faster until FINALLY!
It burnt out.
'I see' {damage core}
'I?'
The damage core did not respond.
I then turned my back as I prepared to leave.
Then it happened.
It was instant.
The hot breath of death tickled nape as I whipped around, my full mana pressure descending upon the forest.
Looking into the eyes of the garvorc as it bore down on me, it hesitated.
The last mistake it would ever see itself make.
A scarlet glow shone from my chest and turned into a beam, coiling around my arm before molding itself into the Shattered Star, cutting into the beast's eyes as the world was dipped into darkness.
The sun had set.
Swinging the Shattered star in a small arc, I parried then the dagger like claws of its wing then deftly swung them off to the side, the scraping of rigid claws on metal creating sparks which illuminated the massive gash that cut through the creatures face.
I then stepped back and brought myself around, a blazing ball of flame crackling in my left palm as a needle thin wing tip barely missed my neck.
*FWOOOOSSSHHHH!!!*
My open palm then thrust forwards, launching the cackling ball of flame into the creature's right ear, setting it's gray fur alight as it soundlessly screeched.
It then turned away from me, batting it's wings against its face as it's mace-like tail swung towards me.
*CLANG!!*
Sparks flew as I swung the Shattered Star up, slapping the mace like tail upwards as I then grabbed onto it, before turning around and tearing the creature from the earth as I swung it overhead.
The creature, ignoring it's singed fur which still glowed orange at the tips, began to beat it's wings in a futile attempt to stabilize itself in midair.
Uncaring, I then swung it down.
*THHOOOOOOMMM!!!*
It crashed into the ground as the it's fall echoed through the forest.
As the dust cleared, a shadow from within it shifted and rose.
Suddenly the dust blew apart!
I the raised the Shattered Star and took a step forward on the stump but…
There was no sound.
Staring at the creature I saw that a white glow was emanating from it's gullet, almost imperceptible to the naked eye.
I however, could see it.
This creature was using mana to take away sound, and not only that, looking down at myself the same weak glow was emanating from myself.
'It's like real time sonar.' {Astaros}
This thing is using sound magic.
How?
I don't know.
The massive shadow then rushed towards me, its jaws opening wide as it lurched forwards.
Retracting the Shattered Star I raised my fist and thrust forwards, the blow connecting with the gavorc's snout.
The upper half of the creature's head crumpled as it sunk in, killing it instantly.
Its body then radiated a red light before disappearing into the damage core without even touching the ground.
I was then pulled out of my thoughts about creatures that naturally use magic and the nature of the elements by a notification.
'Absorption rate of 3%. We are now at 34% of the Divine Devastor class.' {Damage Core}
'Damage core, notify me every time we rise by ten percent.' {Astaros}
The damage core then spun as I began to meld with the shadows, a scarlet glow being the only indicator of my presence.
'Fillia, Dryis, I am coming home.' {Astaros}
The world then faded to black as the damage core spoke.
'Understood, Astaros the Destroyer.'
Alright. Now lets get started on some Character Devellopment.
