Chapter 21
The not so happy Re-union
Sitting in the passenger's seat, I smiled when I heard father humming. I turned to him. "You seem happy father, what happened?" I asked him
John signed with regret, "For the last three years since you left, I haven't been myself, Rose. I regretted ever sending you away. Even when I knew it was the best thing to do, I felt hurt and sad. When I didn't hear from you for almost a year, I almost went crazy with worry." He said as he took my hands in his "But seeing you all grown up, happy, more beautiful, I have never been so proud of my decision, but I'm glad I made the choice." He smiled and continued driving.
"Yes, father, thank you," I said with a sad eye.
Happy he says? Hmmm, I don't blame him for saying that. It took me close to six months to master the art of hiding my facial expression after having to go through hell. Even when I knew that half of the things Vivian did, father was unaware. I can't help but be angry at his words. My mother tried to send me to an early grave, and you think I'm happy? I went through hell and back in the other to survive, for one reason and one reason only: Revenge, and I'll get whichever way it took.
We finally came closer to the mansion. Father packed inside the closed garage and ushered me out of the car. "Come inside, Rose. Oh, and leave the bags for the maids, they will take care of it."
"Sure, dad," I said and went in with him.
As we crossed the threshold, I could hear voices from a distance, but as we drew closer, so did the voices. There, standing close to the staircase, was my mother with a mid-heavy stomach and a glass of red wine. Close to her was Gloria, laughing over a crack joke. They didn't even notice either of us as we drew closer. Until father walked hastily to her with me hiding behind his broad shoulders, "Hello lovelies." He smiled
"Welcome home, father," Gloria greeted. "You look thrilled, what happened?" she asked
Bitch, is he not supposed to look happy?
"Well, rather than who happened? It's more like who came back home?"
Alarmed, Vivian looked at her husband's excited face. "What are you talking about?"
Smiling excitedly with teeth showing, father took my hand. "I'm talking about Rose. I know it surprised me to see her home, too." I heard mother and sister gasped, as the glass of wine she's holding came smashing on the ground with a thud.
With a smiled I said "Hello Mother, hello Gloria, it's been a while. Did you miss me?" I saw the horrified look on my mother's face and thought, "perfect." Looks like your past is here to hunt you down.
For the past few months, Vivian Black has been having a horrible night mere that kept her awake for hours not knowing why and not being able to tell anyone, not even her husband or daughter, but now she understood the reasons for it. Seeing the face of the misfortune in the family, it's all clear, but why is she here? Why is she still alive?
"Mother, are you okay?" Gloria asked as she got a hold of her mother's trembling hands while father hurried to her side. "Are you alright, dear?" he asked too.
While I just stood with my hands in my jeans pocket glaring at her with a death stare, I smirked "Now, now mother, what that face for? You look as if you've seen a ghost?" I smiled. "Hahahahahaha who knows? Maybe you did?"
"What nonsense are you sprouting out again, Rose?" father asked, confused. He signed, "You must be tired from your long trip, go freshen up and rest upstairs. Come down when dinner is set, okay?" he commanded.
Command? He is ordering me around now? Sorry papa but no more of the timid Rose, I stared coldly at him for a while "Nahhh, that's unnecessary, father."
Shocked at my change of tone. "What?"
I meet his gaze, no longer smiling. "I said----- I'm not hungry. I will just freshen up and take a long nap." I stretched like a lazy cat as I headed for the stairs. "it's good to be home." I glance at my family and oh, I loved the look I saw on their faces. It was priceless. "Very sorry papa, seems like your wife will lose another baby." I murmured.
