Eugenio went in for a kiss, though stopped when he noticed Carlos’s eyes go directly to the mariachis.
“Don’t worry, they’re cool. They’re family.”
“Oh really,” Carlos said coyly.
“Hey, don’t get any ideas. You’re exclusively mine now, or at least I’d like you to be.”
“What do you think?”
Eugenio flashed his sexy smile, then set course once again for Carlos’s lips. The kiss was soft and tender, the kind that was a lead in for something bigger. Eugenio pulled away and continued dancing with Carlos. Each couldn’t take their eyes off the other. They both felt so close, so ready to take the next step in their lives. It made them feel both excited and scared. In other words, the way love should be.
When the song was over, Carlos and Eugenio sat down to their semi-cold dinner and listened as the mariachis played some standards they were both familiar with. Some were ones that Carlos remembered dancing to with his mother, which made him smile.
“Penny for your thoughts,” Eugenio said.
