บท 62: Slytherin vs. Gryffindor

Besides everyone in the Castle knowing that Matthew beat the shit out of a troll which earned him a new form of respect and fear from many students, like his Slytherin 'Rival' Warrington who Matthew honestly forgot he even existed, Hermione began to spend a lot more time with him and for some unexplainable reason also Cho. Often when Matthew did his Homework in the Common Room or the Library he would be joined by either one or both of them, they would often ask him questions about magic or just chat with him.

Matthew had no problem with that and even enjoyed their Company since he didn't even need to concentrate on his homework, he could help them a lot. Hermione was also interested in the Spells he used during his fight with the Troll and asked him about them.

"They are Spells I created myself after I realized I didn't find spells to fight larger Creatures without killing them. Something like the explosion Charm or a powerful Cutting Charm would be effective against large creatures like trolls, but they could kill them. While beating the shit out of them was painful but it won't kill them if you don't overdo it." Explained Matthew to the studious brunette.

"So that's how it is, should I also begin to read on spell creation?" asked Hermione with a shinning in her eyes.

"Haha, no it's much too early for you. You need a wide foundation of knowledge in many spells and magical theory, and also runes and Arithmancy to even start with. I worked hard and spent a lot of time in the Library before I created my first Spell at the end of last year." Half lied to Matthew to downplay his capabilities. "The Spells I used in the Bathroom I just created recently since I was missing something like these. The body binding Curse wouldn't even work for a Troll, but my chains are effective." Continued Matthew while explaining his reasoning.

"Hmm, so that's how it is." Muttered a bit disappointed Hermione, she most likely will spend more time in the Library now.

"A small tip from me, you should focus on non-magical sciences since their information is really useful in Magic. With Magic, you can bend their rules but the World still works on them, and you will have a much easier time creating Spells based on them. You most likely are continuing your non-magical education so focus more on Science if you have the Chance." Said, Matthew.

"Ok, and right thank you for explaining the magical world for me during the Summer. My parents were also really happy to learn more of it." Replied a happy Hermione.

~ Scene Break ~

As they entered November, the weather turned very cold. The mountains around the school became icy gray and the lake was like chilled steel. Every morning the ground was covered in frost. Hagrid could be seen from the upstairs windows defrosting broomsticks on the Quidditch field, bundled up in a long moleskin overcoat, rabbit fur gloves, and enormous beaverskin boots.

The Quidditch season had begun. On Saturday, the first match of the Season would happen, Slytherin vs. Gryffindor. According to Hermione Harry became really busy because Oliver Wood the Captain of the Gryffindor Quidditch team who was two years older than Matthew pushed them to their limits since he did want to win the Quidditch Cup this year. They had the best chances this year since Charlie Weasley finished in Hogwarts. Too bad for the Ravenclaw team, where Roger was a member of. Harry was so stressed with his Quidditch training that he even needed help from Hermione with his Homework, Matthew made sure that she would only help guide them to the right answers and not outright let them Copy it so they would learn something. Seems like Ron won't fail in Hogwarts since he somehow still gained Hermione's help.

Since the Troll incident, Hermione also changed she became much nicer to her year mates and more relaxed about rules. The life and death situation was a real eye-opener for her. But she also put more effort into learning magic, maybe she would this time surpass Harry even in Defense against the Dark Arts.

Hermione, Harry, and Ron also began to investigate, like Dumbledore most likely planned, the third floor Corridor, especially since Harry saw the found on Snape's leg after the Troll incident. They still didn't come to Matthew and ask him about the Philosopher Stone.

On the Saturday of the first Quidditch match, the Great Hall was full of the delicious smell of fried sausages and the cheerful chatter of everyone looking forward to a good Quidditch match. Although Matthew decided to visit this Quidditch match since he wanted to see the Canon spectacle, he hadn't much of a choice either way since Hermione decided he needed to help her support their friends.

While Matthew was thinking when he became really good friends with Harry and Ron and whether he was part of the Golden Trio which he hoped not, since he only wanted to be a side character who reaped the rewards and not in the center of the Danger, he followed Hermione and his other Ravenclaw Friends to the Quidditch Pitch.

By eleven o'clock the whole school seemed to be out in the stands around the Quidditch pitch. Many students had binoculars. The seats might be raised high in the air, but it was still difficult to see what was going on sometimes.

Matthew and his friends joined Ron and Harry's Roommates in the stand. They had a large banner on a bedsheet with them. It said Potter for President, and Dean, who was good at drawing, had done a large Gryffindor lion underneath. Hermione also applied a color-changing charm to it. Matthew decided to help them a bit and cast a simple animation charm on the lion so it would begin to roar. Since everyone knows he is capable why not show a bit off, since this was nothing special it wouldn't gather the attention of the wrong sort of people. Someone like Voldemort would think he wastes his time with child play.

Lee Jordan was the commentator of the match with his amusing style that manages to annoy Professor McGonagall. The Match started without great trouble and Gryffindor took the lead. After a while, Hagrid joined them in the Stands. The Match proceeded pretty much equally until Harry's broom began to act up and began to distract the other players, like the twins who began to circle Harry to catch him if he should fall.

Hermione and Ron came again to the conclusion that Snape was cursing Harry's brooms. And Matthew didn't correct them, since he wasn't sure how the timeline would change once they identified Quirrell as the real culprit. It could have drastic consequences since he would kill without blinking an eye.

The Situation was solved again by Hermione burning Snapes Robes who in turn knocked Quirrell over. Harry who was once again in full control over his Broom suddenly headed for the Ground. when the crowd saw him clap his hand to his mouth as though he was about to be sick — he hit the field on all fours — coughed — and something gold fell into his hand.

"I've got the Snitch!" he shouted, waving it above his head, and the game ended in complete confusion.

"He didn't catch it, he nearly swallowed it," Flint was still howling twenty minutes later, but it made no difference — Harry hadn't broken any rules and Lee Jordan was still happily shouting the results — Gryffindor had won by one hundred and seventy points to sixty.
