"Have you heard it clearly, Isabella?" Rosy asked in disdain.
Then she sneered, "Lucas was drunk that day, but you were not. Why do you think that you can be with him after you kissed him when he was drunk? You are a fool."
John chimed in, "Isabella is bold. She looked serious yesterday. I almost believed that Lucas had betrayed Rosy!"
Isabella squatted there in a daze as if she hadn't heard the sarcasm and mockery.
She stared at Lucas.
But Lucas just sat there still and didn't speak for her. All her hopes and expectations for a happy life shattered in an instant.
Tears welled up in Lucas's eyes. His black eyes looked like black pearls that had been soaked in water. He apologized with regret, "Isabella, I'm sorry."
However, Isabella did not look at him or answer him. She wiped her tears and stood up. "Dad, can I leave?" she asked Carl calmly.
"Lucas said that he was in the wrong. He hopes we won't make things difficult for you. I agreed, so you can leave," Carl said coldly.
