Three long, tense and miserable days passed as he waited for the messenger to show. In that time, more and more people left the city as foreign soldiers crowded them out. The place was full of fear and hostility. People muttered about Mercen, none of it polite, and muttered other things about the errant Princess Shanna, believing she'd abandoned them.

Omar ached to reassure people such was not the case, but if he said something like that, it wouldn't take long for soldiers to come after him. He'd already made enough mistakes.

Instead, he focused on the soldiers. The city was large, and searching it was no easy task, but if there was one thing being a bloodgiver to men who largely ignored him had taught, it was patience.
