She scoffed. " Now, you want to talk. Do you now suddenly value my words?" She may have phrased it as a taunt but her words held a hard edge to it, a sharp bite.

Leo winced at the harshness her tone had taken on. It pulsed with ire.

His brows pulled taut as he frowned. Leo valued everything about her, from the hairs on her head to the soles of her feet. He loved and cherished Becca, her words and thoughts. If he didn't, Leo feared this might not be the last time she would try to hurl an item at him. 

He tossed the book carelessly to the floor and it landed slightly askew.

He approached her with slow, tentative steps, unsure of what to do or say to assuage her temper, and possibly quell his as well.

" Becca," Leo muttered. Even while heavily displeased, her name still sounded like a prayer on his lips. He placed a firm hand on her tense shoulder and she immediately shunt it away.
