บท 53: Virus
Ralf was in the center of the room, though, his hands were tied to a rope that was tied to the furthest corner of the room. Everyone stood by the entrance of the room. They all noticed Raiden as he came there.
Raiden could see the terror on everyone's faces but the real terror lay in front of his eyes which he couldn't believe even for a second. Sweat dripped down his head as he saw Ralf all tied up by a rope and how he was acting so strange.
"Hey! What the hell is going on in here?" He asked, nervously.
"I don't know," Toshi replied. "When I woke up, my old man had already tied him up like that."
"His fever rose again, midnight," Toshi's father said. "I was taking care of him the whole night but he started acting weirdly when morning came. I got worried when he started coughing out blood. And, then, he calmed down. I didn't know what to do at that time. I just hurried to get some medicines. When I came back into the room, I found him just standing by a corner. I walked towards him to check on him but he attacked me and, bit me on my hand. He had gone crazy so I tied him up."
"He bit you?" Raiden just noticed the bandage on Toshi's father's hand after he mentioned it.
"Yeah, it came out of nowhere, I wasn't ready for it."
"But- But why would he bite you? And, why is he acting like that?" Raiden was frustrated.
"It's the same," Makie said.
Everyone looked back, to where she was standing.
"What we went through in school. Ralf looks just like them."
Raiden got a value of shock as he was hit with the realization.
"What?" Toshi's father questioned. He was surprised to hear that as he had never really seen those Flesh-Eating Monsters up close unlike Raiden and Makie.
"What is she saying Raiden?" Toshi wanted to confirm it too. He was in school but luckily he didn't have to encounter any of those monsters on his way home. So, he never really got a good look at those monsters, too.
Raiden just stood silently, staring at Ralf, who was staring at Raiden, trying to reach him somehow.
"Answer me," Toshi shouted.
Raiden shifted his gaze toward Toshi.
"If you put it that way, then, yeah!"
"How?" Toshi wasn't satisfied with that unexplained answer.
"Look at his eyes."
They shifted their eyes over to Ralf.
"It is pure white. Just like those guys."
Raiden took a few steps forward, toward Ralf.
"I bet he is blind, now."
"Hey! Don't go too close to him," Toshi's father insisted.
But, Raiden didn't stop.
Raiden stood directly against Ralf and he placed his arm over Ralf's head, without touching him.
Both Toshi and his father were shocked and terrified. Just seeing Raiden standing so close to Ralf and having his hand over Ralf's head made them shiver.
Raiden stood in that position and looked behind.
"See, he doesn't wanna go for my hand. But, he is trying his best to get me." He said very calmly as if all that didn't affect him anymore.
Ralf's face was directly against Raiden's face. Ralf constantly forced his way to get a little closer to Raiden. But, the ropes weren't allowing him to do so.
Raiden finally put his hand down and stared at Ralf's eye for a few seconds. Ralf's eyes had no sign of pupil in them and they looked lifeless. On the other hand, Raiden's eyes had that black pupil inside them but even then, they looked so lifeless.
Raiden turned around to look at the rest of the group and said, "Ralf has turned into one of those monsters."
Ralf got locked up inside Toshi's father's room and doors were shut down on him.
The rest of the group sat in the living hall.
The air inside the room was dense as everyone was so tensed up.
No one wanted to speak anything. It was a weird feeling among all of them.
"But, how? How can he become one of them?" Toshi's father was the one who wanted to engage in a conversation.
"No idea," Toshi said.
Raiden and Makie didn't say anything.
Toshi's father wanted an explanation and he knew he would not get it from this group. Out of desperation, he switched on the news.
"A sudden wave of terror has suddenly emerged in all the hospitals in Tokyo. All the patients that were brought in 3 days ago had become wild. They are going crazy in the hospital. Here is the footage we found from a hospital in Tokyo."
The footage started playing on the screen.
It was a POV video in which the guy making the video seemed to be running in the corridors of the hospital. The path ahead of him was empty but when he rolled the camera to his back. There were more than a dozen of patients who were chasing him. They all looked so wild and terrifying. The guy came around a room, got inside, and locked it.
The banging on the door could be heard in the video. When the guy turned around along with his camera, he found a patient eating a doctor on the floor. All the blood and gore scenes were blurred on the television but they all got a good view of want was happening there.
The patient on the floor seemed to have noticed the guy standing by the door. He stood up and charged toward the guy.
The camera dropped from that guy's hands in order for him to protect himself. The video didn't show anything but the sound of struggling and screaming could be heard. Then, came a sound of smashing.
After a while, the guy picked up the camera and got himself under the bed lying in that doom. He turned the camera toward himself.
He gasped for a while then said, "I think I killed him."
He again gasped and showed his hand to the camera, "But, he bit me." There was a big wound on his hand marked with teeth. "Ahhhh, it hurts so much."
The banging on the door seemed to have stopped and he looked a little relaxed.
"My little brother was admitted to this hospital. I came today's morning to check up on him but he wasn't waking up. I thought he died, but he did wake up and when he did he had become someone else."
The guy's pitch dropped and tears started flowing out of his eyes.
"He bit the nurse present in the room and just chewed her down. I don't know what was happening to him but I got scared so I ran. Before I knew it, everyone In this hospital turned just like him. They are hungry for flesh and are killing everyone in sight. I am making this video so that people know what is happening inside the hospital. And, if possible I would want to get some help. To get me out of this place. Because I don't wanna die here."
The video cut off and the announcer came back on the screen.
"As you could see the situation wasn't normal. And, all this is happening in all the hospitals. Reports had stated that the patients who are going wild are the patients who were admitted 3 days ago when those Flesh-Eating Monsters first attacked the city. It is said that those patients who were attacked by the Flesh-Eating Monsters became just like them 3 days later. Many people on social media are assuming that it is a virus that spreads from biting. But, no official report regarding such a matter has been issued yet. That is all for now, be tuned to our channel to know what more is going to happen in those hospitals or throughout the city."
Everyone in the hall room was tensed up after seeing the unthinkable happening throughout the city.
"All the patients became just like them?" Makie remarked as she looked a lot more scared than earlier.
"A virus?" Raiden remarked.
"A contagious bite?" Toshi remarked.
They all looked toward the bite wound present on Toshi's father's hand.
