"Thanks again for today," Penelope found herself saying as Roman parked in front of her building. Anything else she could think of right now would be inadequate.
She hadn't wanted to go out with him but he had helped her a lot with the car repair bill and there were certain points in the day when she had fun. She couldn't say that she hadn't wanted to go either so she left her parting comment simple.
"Any time," Roman replied with a smile. "We should do this again."
"…sure."
Penelope didn't mean that but she would say anything that would get her out of the car and home. Besides, people said that sort of thing without meaning it all the time. It was a classic end-of-a-lame-first-date line that people said to end the awkwardness on a good note.
"Let me know when they call you about your car being done and I'll come pick you up," he continued. "Have a great rest of your weekend."
"Yeah, you too."
