บท 5: Learning the Fireball Jutsu
Training (Kamui P.O.V)
"Are you okay Kamui?" Minato asked. She looked a little out of it, as if she learned new information.
"I am. I just decided to meditate for a bit." She said calmly. Seeing as how she wasn't going to elaborate, he decided to make it a point to ask about it later.
"Hello Kamui" Itachi greeted. He really needed to make more time to see this little sister of his. Since she had Kushina to spend time with, he spent the majority of his free time training Sasuke.
"Hi Itachi. Long time no see." Kamui replied with a smile.
"Indeed. I've heard some great things about you from lord fourth. He's spoken at length of how strong your control is, despite your vast reserves. If I'm honest, I've taken great pleasure in lady Kushina's complaints on the matter. According to her, 'it just wasn't fair'."
Chuckling, Kamui thought back to those interactions with her aunt. Ever since she awakened her chakra, Kushina had been complaining that it wasn't fair for her to have that much control over their chakra when the Uzumaki's had to scrape for even the barest level of control. The funny thing was, she would be mistaken for an Uzumaki if Chakra reserves, healing rate, and stamina were the things being measured. Now she knew the reason, being the successor of a divine being who had devoured the nine-tailed fox. Truthfully, it really made her feel a part of the family. They were great people and she really enjoyed spending time with them.
"Alright, let's get started." Itachi started.
Kamui's eyes flashed and two tomoe appeared in each eye.
"The fireball jutsu is the introductory jutsu to the clan's famous Grand Fireball. You first begin with kneading your chakra inside your body and converting it into fire chakra, then you'll mix it with the air in your lungs; finally, you blow it out in a sphere whose size is proportional to the amount of chakra used to cast the technique." He stated stoically. Then, his expression grew serious.
"Be very careful with this jutsu. You're mixing fire chakra with the air in your lungs. You have to make sure to compress the mixture and coat your lungs with chakra. The reason why this isn't a common skill in the elemental nations despite its relative ease of casting is the lack of knowledge on how to properly coat the lungs in chakra to mitigate internal damage." He finished.
Kamui's eyes furrowed and then asked the question most prominent in her mind.
"If it's so dangerous for the lungs, why not just mould it outside the body. Dad and Mr. Hatake do it all the time. I've even managed to begin doing it." She said as a perfect sphere of silvery white chakra hovered over her hand. As it was, it wouldn't be very useful in combat aside from pushing corrosive chakra into the body, but it was more of a demonstration than anything else. Then, sparks of blue lightning slowly started to appear in it and after a couple of seconds, the white sphere had small bolts of electricity arcing around it. She wasn't used using nature transformation yet; she just attempted to combine her previous observations with the newly acquired knowledge. Practice was needed.
Both Itachi and Minato's eyes shot open. This was clearly her attempt at replicating and combining Kakashi's Raikiri with her father's Rasengan without the rotating aspects. In its current form it wasn't very threatening to ninja of their level, but she was eight and did this with no instruction; it was extremely impressive.
Settling back down, Itachi chuckled.
"Honestly Kamui, the possibility exists, but most ninja don't have the level of chakra control to make it happen. Moulding chakra outside of the body is significantly harder than doing it inside. For you though, I would be interested to see it. You've been an enigma in the clan since you've been born and I'd love to see if you could pull it off." Smiling Kamui nodded. She would have been a little concerned if it weren't for her recent conversation with the young woman in her mind. Few young people want to be different, no matter how beneficial it may be.
"Now, I'll demonstrate the jutsu." Itachi stated as he made sure the other two were clear of the attack area. Then, he ran through three hand signs, took a deep breath and pushed a moderately sized fireball out of his mouth.
Kamui's eyes caught it all, though instead of focusing on the seemingly irrelevant hand signs, she pushed her entire focus on how the chakra was moulded and processed. Her mind unconsciously worked with the entity inside of her to analyze the process and understand how to replicate it. She already knew how to shape the chakra. To her, it was as clay in her hands. The only new part of the process was the conversion to fire and mixing with oxygen.
Unconsciously, she raised her hand a similar ball of chakra formed into her hand and started pulling in oxygen. Then, the ball became a ball of fire, its temperature quickly climbing as it was forcefully compressed.
"Kamui!" Minato quickly called out with a serious expression, shocking her.
'She doesn't even look like she's doing it consciously. She's probably just repeating what she's seeing.' He thought. He knew that his daughter was talented, but this was another level. She wasn't even really trying. She skipped the hand signs, lung capacity requirement, and skipped right to the forming of the fireball. She wasn't even bothered by the interference of the natural chakra in the atmosphere. Her level of command over energy was absurd.
Stunned, Kamui looked at the blazing ball of fire hovering above her hand. Eyes widening, her expression lit up in joy. She had done it!
"Itachi was right! This really is a simple technique" She exclaimed causing Itachi's eyes to twitch and look at her strangely.
'Easy? Sure, the fireball technique may be easy, but that looks closer to a scorch release technique than a fireball one. Compressing that much energy is far more advanced than she realizes.' Itachi thought with an interested expression. He was focusing his sharingan on the ball of fire over her palm. It looked similar to the ball of fire he had released, but it looked as if she could remotely command her chakra, which was something only two people in the village are currently capable of doing, Jiraya and lord fourth. To do so though, they manipulated it using natural energy as a medium. She didn't appear to be doing that though, so this was new.
Minato was of similar opinion. He may not have had the sharingan, but he knew that what he was seeing wasn't being done through means they were currently aware of. They would have to explore it further in the future. In the meantime, he had an appointment in a few minutes that he had to be at.
"Great job Kamui! I knew you could do it. Keep practicing with Itachi for the next hour or so. I have to be at a meeting." He said with a smile.
"Thank you, dad! Considering How busy you are, I'm really thankful you were able to make this time available. I would like to ask that you spend some time with Naruto this evening. He's been feeling a little lonely while you're at the office." She said as she looked at him.
"I always have time for you two. I'll find him this evening. Unless something happens, I should be back in time for dinner today. Alright, see you then." With a flash, he disappeared.
Kamui's eyes widened. Her sharingan had caught the movement. There was a hole being torn into the fabric of reality, which pulled him through. She didn't know why there was a yellow flash though.
"I really need to ask him how to do that! That would be sooo useful." She excitedly exclaimed with her hands clenched in front of her chest. Inside of her, the entity nodded, acknowledging her mistress's wish.
Shaking his head, Itachi was about to explain a bit about that skill and its difficulty, when he stopped. In Kamui's eyes, he could see her two tomoe glow blue and purple. Slowly, a silver glow began to glow in between them and another tomoe appeared in both eyes.
'What happened? How did her eyes evolve to the next level? There shouldn't have been any emotional trauma. Does her strange chakra affect the development of her eyes as well?' He mentally questioned. With all other Uchiha, their eyes develop in concert with their emotional distress. This was closer in line to what his mother had described her mangekyou's awakening to be, an anomaly. Considering she was pregnant with Kamui at the time, Kamui's special chakra may have been the cause.
*Sigh* 'It would have been nice if she could pass on whatever that mutation is to the future generation. Then the dark fate of our clan could be changed over time. Maybe we can change it in the future? As smart as Kamui is, she may find a way.'
"I wonder if he'd let me watch him do that more. Maybe, I could learn how to do that." Kamui said in wonder.
"Maybe. It requires extensive knowledge in sealing and even then, he's taken it to a level that's made him the most dangerous man in the elemental nations currently." Itachi explained. He wanted to make sure she didn't get her hopes up for such a powerful jutsu.
"Sealing? Why would I need that? Wouldn't I just need to replicate how he used that energy to perform the move?" She asked. It looked like it would take some time, but she should be able to replicate the process after some time.
[You can. You just need to learn how to manipulate the spatial energy you saw used.] She flinched as she heard the woman in her head.
'So you can talk to me outside of my mindscape?' She thought.
[I can. Oh, and please call me Yume. It's not really indicative of my role, but I like that better than you calling me something like Susanoo, which would be more accurate.]
"Are you okay Kamui?" Itachi asked with a concerned expression. He had caught that random flinch.
"I'm fine, but can you answer my earlier question?" she tried to shift the topic back to something she actually wanted his input on.
Smiling, Itachi responded. "I honestly don't know how to do so. My eyes can't see what you're apparently seeing. Considering your unnatural command of chakra, it may actually be possible. I would discuss that with lord fourth when you have the chance. Maybe he could do more demonstrations. It would be pretty funny to bypass the learning process for sealing. Lady Kushina would throw a fit."
Perception of spatial energies and the capture of the fourth's famous jutsu through her eyes? That and the addition of her final tomoe during the process. This would need to be added to the list of abnormal things she could do.
"Alright. Practice your fireball technique and do some experimentation. You have the unique advantage of being able to run tests away from your body, so you should be able to create some creative combinations."
For the rest of the afternoon, Kamui continued to practice with Itachi's observation; he had to leave an hour after they started, so she had to continue by herself for the later portions. It was convenient for them that she could practice the jutsu safely.
She primarily focused on controlling the ball of fire with her mind, specifically working on changing the shape of each ball. She could currently control about three balls at a time. Controlling them to move separately would take time though. The temperature and speed were variables she would have to work on another day.
'If I can perfect this technique, then I can fire techniques from anywhere. If most shinobi fall under the same restriction Itachi described, then I'll have a distinct advantage.' She thought as she concluded her training.
