Zhang Mingmei couldn't rest as she waited for her brother to return.
It had already been slightly over an hour; he should be coming back home soon. She sat in her wheelchair and stared at the ships on the port before hearing footsteps coming from behind the gates.
Soon enough, the gate opened and a young man in black robes came in, he had bright smile on his face. Zhang Mingmei seeing his expression sighed in relief.
It worked!
Just as she was about to go greet him, she saw him turn and gesture towards the gate, his attitude seemed incredibly respectful.
Behind him two young children followed, a boy and girl.
Zhang Mingmei was startled.
Why did he bring children over?
Why was he being so respectful?
No matter how she looked at them, they just looked like any of the other kids running around in the streets.
"Little brother and sister, I'll show you to your rooms."
Zhang Wei noticed his sister's odd looks but said nothing before heading towards the main residence.
This was the agreement he had reached with Li Renjie.
He needed some time to digest everything.
He and Xueyue got their own room, each with a bathroom and fresh towels.
Li Renjie was satisfied, he turned to Zhang Wei and nodded approvingly.
"Like I said, I need at least an hour or two then we can talk. Let me know if anyone comes though. Also…." Li Renjie quickly turned and looks towards Xueyue before leaning close to Zhang Wei.
"Remember to keep my secret," he said in a hushed tone.
"No problem," Zhang Wei replied with a smile before bowing and leaving to go tell his sister the good news!
Li Renjie went to his room after making sure Xueyue was fine, he sat down before taking a deep breath.
'You have to answer my questions now.'
[Ask away~] a charming voice responded.
'Why are you attached to me?'
[I don't know, when you 'died', I awoke. I 've been with you from the start.]
'What world is this?'
[No clue, I just know that I can you make you the greatest disciple of all time! No matter the world!]
'....'
[.....]
'Are you lying to me?'
[You have trust issues.]
'....….'
Taking a deep breath, he tried again.
'So what am I supposed to do?'
[You'll know when the time comes.]
'Are you going to answer anything? Fine, last question about this topic, why I am child?!'
[Beats me~]
'…. You're useless!!!'
[Wrong! You just don't know how to make use of me! You'll see, in the future you won't be able to live without me! Hmph!]
'If that helps you sleep at night.'
'Now, what is this drop of water?'
Li Renjie said as he looked at the strange drop of water floating in systems space.
It was just a single drop of icy blue colored water, and although he couldn't feel the temperature of it when it was stored, he already assumed it must be extremely cold from the name.
[Lunar Glacier Water- Divine water from the Celestial Lunar Realm, only one drop is produced every five thousand years! Each drop can alter a user's physique and grant them a unique body, one that can be inherited! A blood lineage! The Glacial Moon Supreme Physique! You know how much effort I had to go through to get this?! You couldn't possibly understand.]
The system who had started off professionally quickly reverted back to her true self.
'And how would I use it?' Li Renjie kept a straight face, but his eyes were already shining!
Another cheat!
[Just swallow it, but I should let you kn-]
She wasn't able to finish.
Li Renjie summoned the drop!
The moment it appeared the temperature in the room plummeted.
Without hesitation, he guided it into his mouth and swallowed before it could freeze his throat.
The second it entered his stomach his body began to shiver before a thin cold mist began to rise from his body.
"W-W-What the h-hell!" Li Renjie struggled to speak as his body began to shiver uncontrollably!
[…. Impatient fool, you should have just listened. Well, it'll be a good learning lesson for you.]
Li Renjie couldn't respond as the cold began to bite deeper and deeper into his body! It felt like all of his cells were being frozen!
The strange thing was he felt no pain, just cold.
Bitter cold!
Gradually, the mist coming from him started becoming denser and denser and quickly cloaked his entire body. Wherever the mist landed, water would start to condense before freezing and forming small ice crystals.
Li Renjie found that he couldn't maintain his consciousness anymore. The cold was sapping him of his energy, his eyelids started to become heavy.
Soon enough, he could no longer keep them open, slowly they fell.
[Hehehe…little bastard, don't think you're lucky or something, who would want a twenty-year-old disciple? Now then, he's taken the drop, how can I get him to use the charm? Hmmm~] the systems delightful voice sounded softly as Li Renjie drifted into a deep sleep.
Xueyue on the other hand was having quiet a surreal time.
She stared at the large soft bed, the clean towels, and the bath with clean water.
She had never been treated so well before.
After checking to see that the door was locked, she grabbed her little wooden box and opened it. Inside lay a small, fluffy, and white object.
What she called a tree.
Lying down, she gently began caressing the little tree.
"Little tree, something amazing happened today. I don't know how or why but I meet someone really nice…I still don't know his name yet; I know I should ask but I get nervous. Anyway, he said I can stay with him and that he won't send me back to that awful place. He's really nice, oh and also his eyes are really pretty, even though he has two pupils it doesn't look scary at all. He's also really strong! He can make copies of people, it's really weird."
The little girl talked merrily as she lay on her back kicking her feet.
This was the most at ease she had felt in a long time.
She continued to talk, not realizing that small smile had come to her face.
As she spoke, small imperceptible specks of emerald light slowly fell from the fluffy object and into her body. The little girl seemed to have no awareness of what was happening, slowly and quietly they seeped into her tiny figure.
Bit by bit.
Outside the main residence, the two Zhang siblings were busy talking to each other.
"Brother, is what you're saying true?" Zhang Mingmei couldn't help but look at her brother strangely.
"Yes! I saw it with my own eyes! "Zhang Wei spoke with confidence as he recalled the boy's actions and words.
"But can he really help us? He's just a child, what if they send stronger cultivators to deal with him?" Zhang Mingmei sounded skeptical.
She usually never doubted her brother but something about putting their future in the hands of some random kid didn't seem right to her.
"That's what I thought at first, I just wanted to ask him to help us delay for a few days. But then as we were talking, he told me something incredible," Zhang Wei smiled before leaning closer.
"You have to keep this a secret, he told me not to tell anyone, but I know I can trust you."
"Ok, I promise, "Zhang Mingmei wanted to hear what exactly it was the boy said to get her brother to be so positive. She wished it truly would go the way he hoped it would.
"Alright, listen to this…there are over one thousand of his martial seniors and juniors in the city! They are secretly following him as he has been sent on a training mission by his unbelievably powerful master!"
Zhang Wei's eyes sparkled as he recalled the talisman the boy had shown him.
It was a piece of paper: square and black.
Drawn on it was circle made up of complex and strange looking symbols; shimmering, they appeared to be drawn with an iridescent blue ink.
The moment he saw the talisman he knew it was a treasure!
The light around it seemed to bend and warp!
No way some random person would have such a thing! Only someone with a great background could have such a grand treasure!
Of course, Zhang Wei was only an ordinary man, who knew what his definition of a grand treasure was.
The young boy had told him it was a special talisman given to him by his master, if his fellow sect disciples weren't enough, he could crush it and ask for help.
The boys' prior actions as well as the confidence he had when showing the talisman rubbed off on Zhang Wei.
He still remembered his words!
"With this, no matter what problems or troubles may arise, they will pose no threat to me!"
This was strength!
This was backing!
Zhang Mingmei couldn't help but smile unnaturally at her older brother.
He'd been conned!
He was under so much stress that he was looking for a magic bullet!
"Brother, are you sure that he perhaps isn't just taking advantage of us?"
"I know you're worried, and this is your company as much as it is mine, so I asked him to sit and talk with us. He said he just needed some time to contact his master and he'll come to us. Just wait a bit and then you'll have all the answer you want."
"Okay, let's wait for him then"
The two began to get ready for the days work after their discussion.
Unbeknownst to anyone, Li Renjie himself was still lying on the ground in his room.
His body encapsulated in a thin layer of ice.
Every now and then around the shell of ice, small droplets of water would occasionally condense before freezing over.
He had been like this for about an hour and thirty minutes.
Just as another minute was about to pass his body twitched a bit.
Crack.
The thin layer of ice began to crack as if a cocoon.
From the thin shell a figure emerged.
