บท 9: Surface Adventure part 1
" Hmmmm,God this sucks!" I sighed. Boss is making us walk way more than usual. I was carrying the mythril dagger that I tied around my chest with a piece of cloth I salvaged, but that's not the worst thing though, the other rats have evolved into Scav Rats and two of my siblings have started speaking! If you can even call it that, right now it sounds like babies trying to mimic speech.
"Patience Talky, trust me this will all be worth it in the end." said the boss.
"Wor (wor), en(en)" said the two rats.
Geez, I've noticed that the sewer is starting to smell bad. Hold on, are we heading to a populated area? That might explain why we've only encountered slimes here. The sewers were starting to look like a proper sewer that was in use instead of a man made tunnel. Just what exactly is the boss planning?
After walking for a little longer we ended up next to a metal ladder that led to a wooden hatch. The boss told us to grab each other's tails and to form a line. He considered me the strongest and he told me to grab his tail and another rat grabbed my tail and so on. He was the only one big enough to climb the vertical ladder. He was surprisingly good at carrying us up the ladder despite all the weight he had to carry.
After pushing up the cover and checking if the cost was clear He pulled us all the way up and I looked around to see that it was night. It looks like we're in some alley with buildings that look like they would belong in a medieval Fantasy game. The Sky was covered in stars, The moon was crescent shaped and glowed a warm white color. It was a new experience, looking at a night sky free of light pollution with my own eyes.
"Ok rats, here's the plan. Well spread out and look for Good food and shinies, make sure to explore the city and familiarize yourself with the layout. Oh, one more thing Don't fight two Legged creatures in the city it will attract more and you will be killed. Also be back here by day-break or I'll assume you died and leave without you." After the boss finished his speech, all the rats went their separate ways.
Before I did anything else I started looking for any place that had food as I was starving. I traveled quitedly up the street until I found it. I couldn't read the sign but I could see what the picture was. A Bottle of milk and a wedge of cheese, I found the dairy product store! I could almost shed a tear, cheese is one of my favorite foods and I have no doubt that it will only be enhanced by my rat tongue.
I ran to the front door and of course it was locked but that ain't stopping me! I pulled out the dagger with my tail and started fidgeting at the latch bolt of the lock. After forcing it open I sheathed my dagger and squeezed my head inside. It was rat heaven!
There was cheese and dairy products everywhere. Does this count as my first robbery in this world?
"I Smeel cheese.'' I said to myself. I looked to the self behind the counter where I could smell the pungent odor coming from. At the bottom of the display was the cheap stuff but I'm not going with that! There was a step ladder nearby and I moved it closer to the shelf so I could climb up to the higher shelves where the good shit was.
I managed to climb to the middle shelve where there were multiple types of cheese in glass containers. Some of them looked strange colors like red or purple. I went with the one that looked the most familiar, a yellow cheese that was half my size and had small holes in it. I lifted the glass and there was absolutely nothing that could stop me from absolutely demolishing this wedge of cheddar.
I took a small chunk on the Wedge and put it in my mouth.
"*Sniff* I think I'm gonna cry." I said with the cheeses in my mouth. It was absolutely delicious. It was buttery and nutty with a slight aftertaste of tanginess. I thought I'd never experience this again. I chewed the cheese slowly savoring it while a single tear went down my furry cheek. I swallowed it all in one gulp. I looked at the rest of the cheese with malicious intent.
I eat the rest of the cheese quickly, stuffing it into my mouth at a high speed. I don't know how long it took but by some miracle I managed to eat the whole thing. I was completely full, my belly popped out a bit almost like a cartoon. All I needed was a sadistic blue/gray cat and I got a show.
I was too full to move so I decided to rest for a while on the shelf. I wonder what someone would think if they saw a fat rat on a high shelf. I laughed at the thought.
After waiting a while I was just about to leave when something tiny came inside though the open door. It was a rat! But not a black one, it was sorta blue with a white tail instead of a pink one with black eyes. I decided to analyze it.

Wow, that's underwhelming. Is this how weak surface rats are? It doesn't even travel in a pack. It's even level two but what did it kill to level up? The blue rat stood on its hind legs and sniffed the air.
I got down from the shelf to get a closer look at the rat. Its blue fur looked really fluffy compared to mine which looked more like hair,I tried to talk to it.
"Hey, so are you one of the locals?" I asked. The rat stared at me blankly and didn't respond. "Hello, is anyone home?"
The rat did respond eventually, that is if you can call jumping at me and trying to bite me responting. I let it bite me because I didn't feel like trying to fight. But it's pathetic bite wasn't even strong enough to get past my fur.
It tried gnawing at my side but after it made no progress I wrapped my tail around its neck. It started thrashing and squeaking loudly, this was the first time I've ever heard a rat squeak in this world. Does this mean I can't communicate with him at all? I decided to kill it humanly by squeezing its neck tightly and after a while it stopped moving.

I carried it's corpse outside and closed the door behind me. I saw what looked like a trash can and threw it's corpse in there.
Now back to what I wanted to do.
