An Hour Later, on the Road to the Town,
Aurum stopped the jeep, looking out from it, noticing the two blondes, "Your master must really hate blondes."
"Hey, Aurum…" Irina panted, wiping the sweat off her cheek, "Why are you here?"
"If you think you can torture us and find out about Master, then don't even think about it!" Ravel sharply told him.
"Yeah, that was exactly my plan," Aurum pursed his lips, "that's why I left you. Your master seemed like a decent enough person who would forgive you for failing. No, he probably won't even blame you. That is…him before he changed."
"Master hasn't changed! He only-! Mmm!! Mmmm!"
Irina covered Ravel's mouth, who hated Aurum with all her heart. Irina knew that Ravel thought Aurum was the reason she couldn't stay at their master's side and now they even failed at their job and nearly got Kiba killed.
"Ah, so that's a variant. I knew that. I just needed to make sure," Aurum looked at them, curling his lips, puffing air through his lips, "Oh whatever. You two are too easy. It's be fun if you actually ever proved me wrong and did anything substantial to hurt my people. Get in. I'll take you with me."
Ravel pulled Irina's palm down, growling, "who said we want to come with you?!"
"Your master?" Aurum questioningly asked.
Ravel felt her words struck inside her throat, only able to glare at him in frustration, meeting with his mocking eyes, "Ughhhhhh! One day I'll kill you!"
"Sure, chicken. Hop in."
"Chicken? Chicken! Did you call me chicken!" Ravel flared up in anger, "You bastard! Kill you! I will absolutely kill you!"
Aurum chuckled. He rested his face against the door frame, yawning, "Ugh…so loud…"
He tiredly rubbed his eyes, "Somehow you look like a chicken. I can't point my finger at it…but you have this chickeny energy. Now will you sit down or should I leave? I need my beauty nap."
"Chi-Chikeny Energy?"
Irina laughed, hiding behind Ravel, grabbing her from under her arms to keep her from attacking him, "that is VERY close. Do me now."
"Oh sweetheart," Aurum disapprovingly looked at her, "Asking a man to do you for a ride? That's too far. Anyway, I don't touch committed women. Not one for the drama."
"No, the other thing, what do I look like to you?"
"I don't know, catholic, Sunday church, God worshipper, but you don't seem to believe in God. But you trust that there was once God? Frankly, you are a fascinating case. Better than this Satan lover over here. Now, I know, insane people, hence insane organisation."
"Um…wow…how did you do that?"
Aurum raised his eyebrows, pointing behind him, "Guns, launchers, best everything. People didn't just hand me stuff. I am good at reading. I stalked them, watched them. Got their weakness. Blackmailed. Predicted their response. Shut it down. Scared them. Blackmailed again. Got new shiny stuff. I made my fortune doing this. You willingly came and stalked me. What did you expect?"
"Not this," Irina honestly grinned. She cheerfully climbed up in the jeep, "thank you for the ride."
"Sure, whatever. Thank you for the information that chicken doesn't want to give me, but will blurt out if I poke her a little. Anyway, now that you are here. Mind running an errand for me?"
"Uh…" Irina scratched her hair, "You are not a good guy, are you?"
"There are no good guys or bad guys. That's a naïve view of the world. There are people who will compromise. And those who will not. It's what these choices leads to that decides if one is good or not. Like mine. Took from the rich and corrupt helped people survive in the Apocalypse. And it might lead to first and greatest settlement of the new age. I am modern times Robin Freaking Hood."
Irina giggled, only to hear Ravel scoffed, crossing her arms, "Sophistry."
"Oh, you know that word. Good for you. Only if you knew the meaning of it. What I said wasn't sophistry. Sophistry is to use clever replies to deceive others with false reasoning. Was my reasoning false? No."
"I am a guy who wants to protect my family and I won't compromise."
"Hitler wanted to protect his racial purity, and he didn't compromise. It led to Holocaust. On the other hand, Mahatma Gandhi wanted to protect rights and liberty of his country and he chose not to compromise though non-violence. It led to the freedom of a country."
"My argument was, there are people who compromise, and who doesn't. This choice doesn't make them good or evil. Since both Mahatma Gandhi and Hitler chose to do the same. No compromise. It's how and why they made that choice. What their choice led to is what makes them good or evil. Unless you can prove that my argument is false. You can't call it sophistry."
Ravel took deep breaths, clenching her fists, "Do you always have to be so sarcastic, bitchy and hateful!"
"Oh, sarcastic. Another big word," he took in a sharp breath, shaking his head, "again about the use...pfff....hahahahaha."
"Forget it," He held back his smile, silently driving to the hotel, until he parked the jeep in the hotel's parking lot.
He got out, still enjoying the joke. He turned to look at Ravel, "Don't worry. I was sarcastic at the start of that. You used it right. Good for you. Congratulations."
Ravel eerily calmed down, "I am going to tonight."
"Hey, this time you formed a sentence with meaning. Good for you, congratulations," Aurum happily grinned.
"Ughhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
"Ok, ok, that's enough bullying her for that day," Irina hugged Ravel's head, giggling, protecting her from Aurum, "Why are you doing this to her?"
"I hate people who use words like sophistry. Not because they understand the meaning. But because they are pretentious enough to think that using them would make them right and shut down the argument. Because they think that the other person is dumb enough not to understand the argument they made by the use of that word."
Ravel glared at him with tears in her eyes, unable to say anything.
"Just kidding. It was a quick ride, and I had to something to make myself feel better. Hey, I had fun arguing with you. I could have done this all day. You knew when to give up," he took a few steps forward, bowing like he was ending a performance. He teasingly smiled at Ravel, "Good for you."
Ravel widened her eyes. She grabbed onto Irina's clothes, pointing at him in sheer fury, "Murder him! Murder him right now!"
Irina giggled, "come on. Don't let him get under your skin."
She looked towards Aurum who was happily walking away when he stopped, coming back as if he forgot something. He stopped near the gate, raising his hand, giving Ravel a kind look, "Hey, that argument. It was weak. Could have too many interpretations."
Ravel mellowed a little, thinking he was apologising when he took in a breath, wincing, looking away, "It was weak. It wasn't false. Insincere or with a malicious intent. So it couldn't be sophistry. Anyway, you tried."
"No, don't," Irina tried to stop him, seeing the big grin on his lips. Only to see him slowly say those words.
"Good. For. You."
"Youuuuuuuuu!!"
Irina covered Ravel's mouth, holding her as she tried to attack him. She laughed, asking him, "Why?"
"I don't know. She gives off that little sister vibe. I like teasing mine. I like it," Aurum waved at Ravel, walking towards the hotel. He stopped in the middle and came back again, "Right, completely forgot. Take the jeep, and drive to the location on the map. Do you know how to drive?"
"No…?"
"Ok, I'll send a driver. Hurry, don't let the two of them get hurt. You can rest after you come back."
