As it was, Mattheus had Elena Snowe to thank for deciding their mode of transportation to be the two air bikes that Mattheus's group had brought with them. It was the only way for Illarion's mother to send them off without complaints, brought up when valid concerns were raised as Hlidskialf was a week's travel away—and that was with a faerie steed. 

On the other hand, watching the marchioness consider the air bike that Lula gave a demonstration with along with the responses of the soldiers and knights, Mattheus thought there might be an opportunity there for Mecane. Something to consider since he was officially stuck in the region until the snow melted.

A part of him felt bad for not being out there healing people during the season when people tended to fall ill the most but Brunilda had called that feeling a "work sickness" which was a version of workaholic tendencies mixed with the occupational hazard of the job.
