บท 14: He is a family member!...

A smile crept on Katherine's lips, detecting the worry in his voice and she softly murmured, "Uhmm.. It's not your grandpa who had received the call but----"

"Who are you?" A direct question had been thrown towards Katherine from the other side.

Katherine was a little baffled with the other person's way of asking the question. She knew that, it was normal for anyone to ask about the person who has picked up someone else's call without prior notice.

Not to mention, when the receiver was nothing but practically a stranger to the caller!

However, it didn't intrigue Katherine much but what made her cringe a little was the tone the so called grandson of her newly made grandpa was using on her.

It was nothing gentle but more like a stern and rude one which Katherine didn't like at all..!

According to her, a person should always be soft spoken to every person even if he or she was a stranger.

Though this rule didn't always go with everyone as she believed more on the 'tit for tat' phrase..

If the other person was behaving rude to you, then you should always show their place in the sweetest yet the meanest way!

However, the situation was completely different here. No matter what, this not so gentle person was Joseph's grandson and she needed to treat him a little modestly unlike how she acted with some other ill mannered people..

Inhaling a sharp breath, Katherine tried to calm down her raging nerves and said in a comparatively small tone, "It's Katherine Blackwood, the granddaughter of grandpa Joseph's best friend, Wayne Blackwood. You can call me Katherine by the way...

Your grandfather is actually sleeping now. I came here to check on him when I heard his phone ringing. As I didn't want to disturb his sleep, so I decided to pick up the call without his permission in order to not wake him up."

The realisation finally hit him hard and he groaned internally before cursing himself for his impolite behaviour towards her a few minutes ago.

Without wasting any second, he immediately apologised, "Oh! I'm really sorry for speaking rudely to you. Actually, I was very much tensed about Grandpa's health after hearing about his accident just a moment ago..

Actually, I'm out of the country right now because of a business deal. So I didn't have any information regarding this. And when I finally got informed about the incident, I couldn't help but feel extremely helpless for not being able to be with him..

Truth to be told, the helplessness made me angry to an extent level and I burst onto a wrong person which was you, not knowing that you were the person who had literally given my grandpa a second chance to live on this earth. Thanks a lot for saving him and also sorry for acting so ungentlemanly with you."

Being a very observant person, it was not hard for Katherine to know that he had truly meant whatever he had said just now.

The emotional turmoil a person goes through when their dear ones are in danger or ill, was not unknown to Katherine..

After all, her real grandpa, Wayne was also a heart patient and already had two heart attacks before. Doctor had already declared that if another situation like this happened again, then it'd be impossible to save him from leaving this world.

That was why, they were trying to keep him happy to the maximum level, not wishing to recall another heart attack.

Grandpa Joseph's visit was also related to it. He wanted to spend some friendly time with Wayne so that they could reminisce through those happy old memories again, together with his friend..

Katherine had a sad smile on her face, remembering about her grandfather's health issues and said, "No.. It's okay. I completely understand your worry. Do you want to leave any message for your grandfather, Mr. ---??"

Totally unware of his name, Katherine trailed off at the end of her question, making the other person chuckle..

"I'm Ethan Jones, Grandpa Joseph's only grandson. You can call me Ethan by the way." Ethan repeated the same lines of Katherine, with a serene smile on his face.

Katherine too grinned and asked again, "So.. Do you want anything to say something, Ethan?"

"Uhmm.. Nothing much. Just wanted to know about his health. How is he now?" Ethan asked.

"He's better now. Always busy in chatting and laughing with my grandpa. There's nothing for you to worry about him anymore." Katherine replied.

"Thanks Katherine for taking care of him like your own family member. He's very close to me and I love him a lot." Ethan mumbled in a low voice.

Katherine sighed at his trembling tone and replied in a firm voice, "He is a family member!"

It was completely new for Ethan to hear from an almost stranger's mouth to call his grandfather as her own. It made his stomach flip with an unknown kind of happiness..

"Okay then.. I'll call him back tomorrow morning. Good night, Katherine." Ethan said, aware of the time difference between both of the countries.

"Hmm.. Good night, Ethan.." Katherine too replied before hanging up the call.

Her eyes then drifted towards Joseph who was sleeping peacefully, making the corner of her lips uplift in a beautiful curve.

Keeping the phone on the bedside table, she whispered in a low voice, "Your grandson really loves you a lot."

Giving his sleeping figure a final glance, Katherine finally walked out of the room, completely unaware about a sudden someone's look of appreciation on her…
