Gloria peeked into the kitchen and grabbed one canned food. "If you can found portable generator, it'll be for the best to supply electricity for a long period of time. While the voltage might be limited, it'll be good to have electricity."
Portable generator was truly a generator that could move around. The size was small, around 30 to 40 centimeters square. While it might be a bit heavy for a girl to carry, it was also very useful since the electricity it can generate would be able to sustain a house as long as they didn't use too many items.
(A/N: if one uses AC, microwave, television, and many others at the same time, it's still won't be enough, though)
Yakov looked at Gloria with a blank expression. "Do you know that I wouldn't understand what you're talking about, right?"
"I'm talking to William."
William nodded. He knew that carrying a portable generator would be useful. More importantly, he also needed to find a way to be able to charge his phone again. Maybe he would be able to use it to contact others again.
As if reading his mind, Gloria added, "The telephone pole around this area is no longer in good condition. Internet might still be possible to a certain limit since part of their cable are underground before it's reaching here. I'll try to connect and see what I can get."
"Ok."
If William had to be honest, he completely had no idea that internet cable was underground. He thought that they would be the same as telephone, hanging on that tall pole and couldn't be used anymore if it was broken.
Well, having a student nearby was not that bad. While she might not be as knowledgeable as an expert, she still had the basic knowledge regarding how things work and could possibly help him out.
He looked at Gloria. "You're surprisingly talkative when talking about this."
Gloria was stunned. She quickly stuffed the dried fruit to her mouth and turned around, "It's nothing."
William chuckled as he watched Gloria returned back to the living room to deal with the router and her laptop. In any case, he knew that he could leave her alone since she was more used to this.
"Have you finished eating?"
Rozan nodded. He was still watching the three youngsters before him with curiosity. At first, he thought that the three of them were friends, but from the way they spoke, he realized that the young girl had just joined not long ago.
"It's not that far, but since we need to cross the street, you need to be careful to not get caught by the gang's members."
"Got it."
The two of them walked out of the house, leaving Yakov, who was still eating more dried fruit from the can. While he looked like he was relaxing, his gun was placed on the tabletop, ready to be used when it was necessary.
William followed Rozan as they walked past the bushes and also some houses nearby. There were no one around them at this time, but they still needed to be careful since the gang's member didn't have fixed time to travel around.
"Over here," Rozan whispered.
William nodded and followed Rozan as they passed a narrow alleyway. There was barely anyone around as the people there were either got killed or turning into Xermo. The gang member was also not around.
After confirming that there was no one around, they crossed the street and walked in the narrow alleyway once more. There were a lot of plants that provided perfect cover for them until they finally arrived near the edge of the residential areas. That was also the location for the convenience store.
"Over there."
William nodded and walked to the convenience store. He pushed the door open with his other hand still holding the gun. Looking around the convenience store, he realized that there were several items already missing.
Some people must have come here to grab some food for their survival.
He glanced around until he found what he was looking for. There were still some bottles left untouched along with several gallons of water. Slowly, he crouched down and picked one of the gallons.
"This should be enough for now."
Rozan shook his head. "Not in the long run."
"We'll find a way to store more water later. Probably, we can park the car near the convenience store to bring more water?" William asked.
It was not impossible since there was indeed a route to come here. However, Rozan knew that it would be hard to do that because of the gang nearby.
"We'll need to be more careful."
"Yes."
Rozan looked at William and smiled. "You still can't trust me, youngster?"
"Would you trust a stranger that suddenly appear in front of your door?" William asked back. "Even though the situation is already very dire like this, there are still a lot of people who are thinking of harming others for their sake."
Rubbing his short beard, Rozan nodded in agreement. He couldn't refute that. There were indeed too many people who were willing to sacrifice others if it meant that they could survive.
The gang had already provided them with the perfect example.
"But you trust those two?"
William smiled. He was practically the one who dragged Gloria to come along with him in the first place. And after watching her for some time, he also knew that she was nothing more than an ordinary student before this incident.
As for Yakov, he was his best friend. They have already braved danger for a long period of time when they were in the military.
How could he not trust him?
"Yes."
