บท 96: Deal
I summon countless vine spikes. Enough to bloat the sky! …almost. Then I release them all toward my target with incredible momentum! Take that!
Let's see who's stronger between me and some dumb barrier! The answer is the barrier. All my attacks simply pass through and dig in the ground behind. I try a few times to use nature magic to knock on it, but there is little effect. The smoke just wraps it completely.
I try to make a tunnel. Sadly, it gets filled quickly with smoke too. All the while the sparks of energy seem to be slowly corroding it. Until it finally disappears.
[Well, this sucks.]
"You can't do it?! Is this what they call elemental weaknesses?"
"Of course it is! Otherwise, someone as strong as him could clear it up in no time!"

They give me thumbs up. What should I do? What about just trying to make a bridge out of rocks? That may be a huge pain, but it might just work. There is still the danger of it getting reduced to dust and us falling to our deaths.
Yeah, not sure I want to try. *Sigh* This sucks. I can't go above, I can't go through…but could I? Wait, this thing doesn't work in the mountain, right? I think I know why.
[We are going back to the mountain!]
"We are giving up just like that?!"
"*Sigh* The curse of the mushrooms is strong."
The wyvern is looking at me suspiciously.
[Just bring us back to the tunnel, that should do.]
She complies.
[Alright, go down]
"What are you?"
[Getting help.]
There are various holes in the ground.
[These should be dug by these rats, right?]
Here goes nothing.
[*Shout* I wish to make a trade! Your help in exchange for these white flowers you are looking for!]
Right now, I am officially looking like an idiot. Even the two guys are looking at me speechless. They seem to be questioning my sanity at first. Then they somehow figure I was joking and start chuckling.
But then they realize how serious I look, and they abruptly stop. Looking nervous. Fearing to have offended me. In such an awkward atmosphere minutes pass.
*Squeak* Finally, a little furry ball hesitantly comes out.
[Hey there little guy.]
"How did you do that?!"
[Wyvern, get me a white flower. Quickly.]
"But! We need them for the flock! It helps them become smarter and…"
[Hurry!]
She grumbles but leaves, nonetheless.
"Human, you can understand me?"
[Yep. Are you interested in my offer? Well, yes or you wouldn't be here, right?]
"Hehe, after consuming one I know the benefits of such flower."
[How does it work down there?]
"The strongest of us are becoming the smartest. Thus only accelerating their evolution."
This does correlate to how rats used to behave on earth.
[Let me guess. Some are exploiting the others to get some flowers, some are getting exploited, some are only getting kicked all day to relieve tension, and then there is the independent you.]
"H-How did you know?!"
[Oh, just something your species often does is all.]
"What exactly would you need me to do?"
[There used to be some people that came here and set up something to kill monsters in the area. Do you know anything about it?]
"I'll be able to receive a flower if I tell you?"
[Simply for telling me? No. I'll have you disable one. Can you do it?]
"T-that…it would be extremely risky! There is no use losing my life for 1 flower!"
[Oh? Then you'll do it for 3?]
"What?! 3?!"
[I can also ask another…]
"I'll do it! You can count on me! I am fast! I am smart! I am a good worker!"
Wow. Somehow this rat is giving me more confidence than half the workforce on earth.
[Well, now we just have to wait for the wyvern to be back haha.]
I turn around and I see the two guys rubbing their eyes. Pinching each other. Looking between me and the rat, alternating. I wonder how long they'll keep doing that haha. After hours the wyvern finally comes back. Yes, they are still at it.
[Welcome back!]
"Here I got one! Happy?!"
[Yep.]
"Human we agreed on three!"
I touch the flower carefully. Trying to figure out its characteristics. Then I smell it. Finally, I bite a little piece of it. Pretty good.
"Human! What are you doing! This thing is only good for monsters!"
[How are you so sure?]
"Eh, it's common knowledge..."
That moment when a rat has more common sense than you. The downside of being a transmigrator.
[These things can grow anywhere, right?]
"Yes, but there are areas where…"
I concentrate the drive as much nature mana as I can into it. If it was to manipulate all that into an attack it may prove difficult. But the energy itself is easy. Same as back on earth haha.
[*Murmur* Grow well little one.]
The flower starts growing. A new one comes out of it. Then another. After the fifth one, I finally feel tired. These little things surprisingly take a lot of mana. How the hell was there that many back at the wyvern's place then?! She exclaims.
"How?! How did you do this?!"
[What do you mean?]
"How did you grow it to maturity instantly?!"
[What do you mean? Also, don't you already have a ton of them?]
"No! I only have 3 mature ones. All the others are still growing."
[Oh, I see. How long does it take for one to mature?]
"Give or take a hundred years."
[What?! And you guys let rats take them?! Can't you eat it as soon as it reaches maturity?]
"They are stealing them before maturity."
[Isn't that a huge loss?]
"*Sigh* Yes but the rats can use almost mature ones while we can't."
[I see. Anyway, where were we?]
I turn to a completely mesmerized rat.
[You still alive? That should be enough, right?]
He looks at me flabbergasted.
"How?!"
Then the wyvern chimes in.
"How are you able to talk to the rat by the way?"
[Oh, that? Nothing complicated. Just true speech.]
Everyone present…
"WHAT?!!!"
